2
- The minutes from the meeting held on March 6, 2023, were approved. Motion to Approve: Rev.
Paul R. Wiggins, 2nd Patricia Silva-Magliocca.
- Board Liaison Pollard notified the Board that although the Reader’s Challenge did not start on
March 15, 2023, it has kicked off. The books were picked up from the Southwest Community
Center and each aftercare had the books for the City Commissioner’s and City Manager to come
in and read to the after-school students. All sign-in sheets were provided to the City
Commissioner’s assistant Maxine Singh for the Reader’s Challenge to officially start.
- Principal Lewis Jackson arrived late. He mentioned that he’d provided the music teacher list to
the Broward County School District to get funding to purchase items and he has not heard from
them.
- Board Liaison Pollard asked what is the current status today from Broward County School District
regarding the purchase of the music supplies needed?
- Principal Lewis Jackson stated he still has not heard back from Broward County School District.
- Board Member Rev. Wiggins stated he would provide a $100 donation for the music teacher at
Dania Elementary to purchase music supplies for her classroom/students.
- Principal Lewis Jackson stated he was confused about who is considered a Board member and
who isn’t.
- Board Liaison Pollard pulled the Education Advisory Board roster and explained that there are
five (5) Board members appointed to this Board by each commission. She went through the list
advising each regular Board member and the Commissioner’s that appointed them.
Appointed Board Member Name Appointing Commissioner
Samantha Ellswoth Commissioner Davis
Rev. Paul R. Wiggins Commissioner James
Patricia Silva-Magliocca Mayor Ryan
Heidi Romer Vice Mayor Lewellen
Mary Jane Guerra Commissioner Salvino
-Board Liaison Pollard proceeded to explain that the school administrators are Ex-Officio’s and an
Ad-Hoc. She continued to explain that the Board wants to help the schools in Dania Beach and
without the school administrators at the table during these monthly meetings, it is almost
impossible to do that. She advised Principal Lewis Jackson that he hadn’t been to one of these
meetings in a while.
- Principal Lewis Jackson stated he hasn’t been coming to these meetings because he would be
the only one that shows up and he would be sitting for over 30 minutes.
-Board Liaison stated that since she has been the liaison for this Board, she has never had anyone
sit for over 30 minutes. The max time that she gives to establish a quorum is 15 minutes. She
mentioned to Principal Lewis Jackson that that is not a reason to stop coming. She also mentioned
how Principal Tracy Jackson has come consistently and has been instrumental at this table.
-Principal Lewis Jackson expressed being upset by the reference to Principal Tracy Jackson. He
also mentioned that he designated Patricia Magliocca, who is a teacher from his school, to attend
these meetings and he didn’t know who Patricia Silva-Magliocca is.
-Board Liaison Pollard reiterated that Patricia Silva-Magliocca is Patricia Magliocca and although
he designated her to come to these meetings, she was appointed by Mayor Ryan.
-There was some back and forth between Principal Lewis Jackson and Board Liaison Pollard. Rev.
Paul R. Wiggins interjected, and the meeting resumed according to the agenda.
- The task to pick-up the Reader’s Log was delegated as follows:
3
• Board Member Rev. Wiggins – Collins Elementary
• Board Member Patricia Silva-Magliocca – Dania Elementary
• Board Member Samantha Ellsworth – Olsen Middle School
-Board Liaison Pollard moved to the next item on the agenda for prizes to the winner of the
