Educational Advisory Board
Regular Meeting
Tuesday, October 1, 2013
6:30 pm
I. ROLL CALL – Marc LaFerrier, Director of Community Development opened the meeting
with roll call as follows:

Other attendees: Valerie Thomas, Principal, Olsen Middle School
Dr. Corey Montgomery, Assistant Principal, Olsen Middle School
Petra Cordova, ESE, Dania Elementary School
II. PUBLIC COMMENTS – No Public Comments
III. MINUTES
Approval Minutes of September 3, 2013 - Approved
IV. PUBLIC COMMENT DISCUSSION – No Discussion
V. BOARD DISCUSSION
Discussion began regarding orientation of each school’s website including data, faculty,
plans, programs and meetings.
Dania Elementary, Collins Elementary and Bethune Elementary (which may include Dania
Beach students); it was discussed that each Board Member should take a school and
research for programs.
Dr. Montgomery recommended conducting a “needs assessment” with the principals from
each school. Dr. Montgomery will bring a sample of a needs assessment to the next board
meeting.

Board Member Hague recommended creating a calendar of the SACS and PTO meeting for
members to attend and present information.
Mr. Marc LaFerrier read memo dated October 1, 2013 from Colin Donnelly, Board Liaison
at the request of Vice Mayor Jones.
