III. Minutes: Approval of Minutes
May 2nd, 2016 ‐ Approved First Ms. Diana Curry, Second Ms. Murillo
IV. Old Business
‐ Discuss the distribution of the school supply that was provided by the Kiwanis of Dania Beach and the
Prestige Club.
‐ Teacher and Employee of The Year Program; discussed how to enhance the event and show more
appreciation. Examples: give plaques, gift certificate from local business partners, luncheon, gift
baskets…
V. New Business
‐Teacher and Employee of The Year Program ‐ To enhance the appreciation award with a plaque and gift
certificate or a luncheon.
‐STEAM‐ Collins Elementary and Dania Elementary representatives shared how they are integrating STEAM
into the school curriculum. They have used the Smart Bond to purchase laptops. Dania Elementary has
purchased one for each student, grades 4th and 5th and enough for the younger grades. They have created
many afterschool clubs that integrate STEAM. Dania Elementary created a Robotic and Math club that will
join the districtwide competition.
‐ Collins Elementary and Dania Elementary have created different programs to retain and increase student
enrollment.
‐Concerns were expressed regarding students enrolling to local charter schools.
‐Schools are seeking volunteers on a consistent basis once a week or biweekly or even once a month.
Perhaps an ad for volunteers can be posted in local newspaper, targeting volunteers from different
professions.
