I. Call to Order – Batia Dayan
II. Public Comments – None
III. Minutes: Approval of Minutes –
January 9, 2017 ‐ Approved First Ms. Dayan Second Ms. Curry
IV. Old Business
‐ Teacher and Employee of The Year Program; total of six. Board wants City to issue plaques rather than
certificates and give gift cards. Ms. Dayan to approach the Chamber of Commerce.
‐ Volunteer advertisement: Can City advocate volunteerism on the City’s website?
‐ Chess Challenge: Is Mayor James in favor of pursuing?
V. New Business
‐EAB members could visit schools to be introduced to school leaders.
‐Volunteers are needed during business hours, especially male mentors.
‐Suggested to get Kiwanis to participate. Ms. Dayan to reach out to Kiwanis and possibly work through
Chamber of Commerce.
‐School representatives from Dania Elementary, Collins Elementary and Olsen Middle School shared some of
their school events highlights.
‐Collins Elementary: Princess Tea Party, ended Literacy Week and held Literacy PJ Day, Alumni Meeting,
Testing Month coming soon. Valentine Dance moved to Spring due to inadequate lighting at the school.
Collins Band invited to Arts and Seafood Festival. Camera upgrades are needed. Attendance Challenge
from Mayor and Commissioner Harris. Eleanna Hurst nominated for Teacher of the Year.
‐Dania Elementary: Literacy Week, Stem Olympics, Book Fair, Danish Performers scheduled, Single‐point
access to school completed. Camera upgrades are needed. Dr. Jackson nominated as Principal of the
Year.
