Green Advisory Board
Regular Meeting
Wednesday, January 16, 2019
5:00 PM
The meeting was called to order at 5:04PM.
1. ROLL CALL

2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: December 19, 2018
Motion was made by David Simonetta to approve the December 19, 2018 minutes of the Green
Advisory Board (GAB) as presented and was seconded by Lilli Schipper. Motion passed 4-0.

3. CITIZENS COMMENTS
None
4. OLD BUSINESS
Lilli Schipper emailed Katia Bordy, Public Information Officer (P.I.O.) for the City, regarding the
web page.
Joe Husosky was unsure and cautious about the Sunshine Law. Joe was out of town due to
personal reasons.
Patricia Chukerman asked Lilly Schipper to reach out to Katia Bordy again.
5. NEW BUSINESS
Status of Bags - 100 GAB bags were given out at Aldi’s Grand Opening.
Patricia Chukerman stated that Robert Shapiro offered to replace the bags.
Patricia Chukerman will ask Mr. Shapiro to request other retailers in Dania Point to participate in
purchasing more bags.
Lilli Schipper will ask Katia Bordy to advertise that the GAB has two vacant board seats.
6. DISCUSSION/ACTION
David Simonetta is not happy with existing straw ban. He wants a total prohibition of straws. Miami
Beach and Fort Lauderdale were cited as examples.
Styrofoam prohibition is next to be looked into.
Corinne Lajoie will email the existing City Straw Ban Ordinance to Board Members for
discussion in February.
David Simonetta discussed that Fort Lauderdale is looking into prohibiting plastic bags.
Mimi Donly asked for the person in charge of the beach to speak to the Board in February regarding
beach renourishment.
Patricia Chukerman has person to discuss LEED Programs and Surf Rider. The Board can make it an
event.
GAB Minutes 2 January 16, 2019
Need a larger Board.
Can invite the City Commissioners and the Community.
Katia Bordy can advertise on social media.
The next GAB meeting is February 20, 2019.
VII.MEETING ADJOURNED
Motion was made by Lilli Schipper to adjourn the meeting at 5:56PM and was seconded by Mimi
Donly. Motion passed 4-0.
