HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-02-20 Green Advisory Board Minutes MINUTES City of Dania Beach Green Advisory Board Regular Meeting Wednesday, February 20, 2019 5:00 PM The meeting was called to order at 5:07PM. 1. ROLL CALL Board Members Staff Lilli Schipper Present Corinne Lajoie, AICP, LEED GA Present David Simonetta Present Beth White Present Alexis Guillen Present Patricia Chukerman Absent Mimi Donly Absent 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: January 16, 2019 Motion was made by Lilli Schipper to approve the January 16, 2019 minutes of the Green Advisory Board (GAB) as presented and was seconded by David Simonetta. OLD BUSINESS  Lilli Schipper discussed how to use social media to get the word out regarding the Green Advisory Board (GAB). Katia Bordy, Public Information Officer (P.I.O.) for the City, has been engaged.  LEED Speaker on hold for Patricia Chukerman to invite and provide date.  Reusable Bags – David Simonetta discussed the idea of having Dania Pointe purchase bags for the GAB use. 5. NEW BUSINESS  Lilli Schipper spoke about social media ideas. Alexis Guillen asked how the Board wants to use social media. EVENTS  Alexis Guillen discussed the idea of waterway clean-up on canals. Can partner with agencies that currently do clean-up. Are they City initiated clean-ups? Corinne Lajoie to ask Public Works for any planned events.  David Simonetta personally cleans the beach every Saturday at 8:00AM and invited others to participate.  David Simonetta discussed the straw ban. He wants the ban to be stronger – completely banned.  He wishes to educate teachers, parents and the public on single use plastics.  Alexis Guillen said that Earth Day is April 22nd. It is generally supported by the Board.  Lilli Schipper discussed “Blue Life Connections”. Judy Shaeska has a program for schools.  Alexis Guillen suggested that a letter to the school from GAB can be short  David Simonetta said that the letter should be addressed to adults (e.g., teachers, parents, etc.). GAB Minutes 2 February 20, 2019  Each GAB member is to create a paragraph with recycling facts for a letter. Contact persons are to distribute letter. Prepared for March meeting.  Corinne Lajoie is to share task with the Board via e-mail. 6. DISCUSSION/ACTION  David Simonetta has a friend who wants to install fifty beehives on private properties, if anyone knows of an interested party. 7. MEETING ADJOURNED Motion was made by Lilli Schipper to adjourn the meeting at 5:57PM and was seconded by David Simonetta. Motion passed 4-0.
