Special Meeting
Tuesday, December 10, 2019

The meeting was called to order at 5:20PM.

2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: November 21, 2019
Motion was made by David Simonetta to approve the November 21, 2019 minutes of the Green
Advisory Board (GAB) as presented and was seconded by Lilli Schipper. Motion passed 5-0.
3. CITIZENS’ COMMENTS: N/A
4. NEW BUSINESS: To Discuss Wish List items
David Simonetta liked the coffee cup or water bottle with flyer inside.
Alexandra Hiley recommended choosing carefully.
Lilli Schipper liked the sunglasses to promote brand awareness. Concerned with purchasing plastic
items to promote the GAB.
Alexis Guillen said Ziploc alternative; reusable. The straws were too small to provide logo on it.
Reusable bags were best option and reduced single use plastic bags.
Alexandra Hiley felt that all bag materials had some waste associated with it. The idea was to use what
you have, regardless of the material.

6. DISCUSSION/ACTION:
Lilli Schipper asked if the board members could ask the candidates running for City Commission about
their thoughts and opinions regarding the GAB.
How?
Could the board invite candidates to a board meeting to speak?
Alexis Guillen said 2020 Earth Day is the 50th annual event (April 22, 2020). 43rd Beach Cleanup event.
Marine Event – “Broward Waterway Cleanup”.
Alexandra Hiley - regarding a joint event with Nova Southeastern University.
Alexandra Hiley further spoke about reefs near the pier have a lot of trash. Can pier be shut for a day for
cleanup purposes?
Motion was made by Alexandra Hiley to inquire about any permits necessary to conduct reef cleanup
and it was seconded by Lilli Schipper. Motion passed 5-0.
Where should clean up occur? Beach/Parks
Can we get free parking?
Next meeting would be January 14, 2020 for a Special Planning Meeting @5:15PM (to start planning
Earth Day Clean-Up Event).
January 22, 2020 would be the regular GAB Meeting @5:15PM.
Clean-Up date would be April 25, 2020 (or maybe April 18th).
Corinne Lajoie to work on how to get money for event / formalize plan / make request to City Manager.
