HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-01-20 Green Advisory Board Minutes MINUTES City of Dania Beach Green Advisory Board Regular Meeting Wednesday, January 20, 2020 5:15 PM The meeting was called to order at 5:16 PM. 1. ROLL CALL: Board Members Staff Patricia Chukerman, Chair Absent Corinne Lajoie, Assistant Director Alexis Guillen Present Richard Lorber, Planning & Zoning Manager Laura Lombardo Present Eleanor Norena, Director David Simonetta Present 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: February 25, 2020 Motion was made by David Simonetta to approve the February 25, 2020 minutes of the Green Advisory Board (GAB) special meeting as presented and was seconded by Alexis Guillen. Motion passed 3-0. 3. CITIZENS’ COMMENTS: N/A 4. NEW BUSINESS: Appointments to the Green Advisory Board – Staff described the new City Commission and discussed their potential for appointments to the GAB. Members may reach out to their appointing Commissioners to request reappointment if applicable. Corinne Lajoie, Community Development Assistant Director, described the new Community Development Department organization, introducing Eleanor Norena as the new Director, and new staff member Richard Lorber as Planning & Zoning Manager and new staff to the Green Advisory Board. 5. OLD BUSINESS: 6. DISCUSSION/ACTION:  Dania Beach Cleanup. David Simonetta discussed restarting the plans for a Dania Beach cleanup including divers to clean around the pier and artificial reefs. Corinne Lajoie suggested a special event application be filled out and submitted by the Board. Richard Lorber to assist by sharing previous application material and providing application for to Alexis Guillen to fill out. Director Eleanor Norena indicated that the event may be able to be administratively approved. Laura Lombardo mentioned the graduate student who had assisted at previous cleanups. Market as City event. Target date will be April 17,  Discussion of Sea Bins. An Australian company manufacturing garbage collection systems for canal maintenance that are installed at the dead ends of canals to collect garbage and debris. Regular maintenance and garbage removal would be required. Staff to investigate the agencies responsible for canal maintenance and advise the Board.  Also discussed was the idea of sponsoring canals in a similar way to sponsoring roadway segments for maintenance purposes. Canal cleanups would be a good idea. GAB Minutes 2 February 19, 2020  Artificial Reefs. Richard will send information regarding the artificial reefs at Dania Beach to Board members for their information.  Next GAB Meeting is February 17, 2021 at 5:15 PM. 7. ADJOURNMENT: Motion was made by Alexis Guillen to adjourn the meeting at 5:45 PM and it was seconded by David Simonetta. Motion passed 3-0.
