HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-07-19 Parks, Recreation, and Community Affairs Advisory Board Minutes • CITY OF DANIA BEACH PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES TUESDAY,JULY 19,2005 Kristen Jones called meeting at 6:OOPM Members present: Julie Brockman, Chip Brockman, Lisa Drake, Jimmy Peterman, Judy Jensen, JoAnn Brave Others: Kristen Jones, Mark Felicetty, Martha Riguero Kristen Jones introduced Mark Felicetty to the Board, after the introduction Mark informed members about upcoming programs/renovations and past events: 1 "Salute to our Heroes"held on July 2nd 2 Super Boat Races 3 July 25-29, Baby Otters at Meli Aquatics the city will provide lunch& transportation 4 August 2nd Night Out Against Crime • 5 August 1st Summer Camp Fun Day at Meli Park 6 Sept 19th renovations a IT Parker Center 7 October 1st fitness room grand opening, membership on sale on August, after commission approval. Julie Brockman inquired about Flea Market dates, Martha informed her the dates: September 1 Oth,and December 1 Oth. Bond Referendum Board meetings will start soon; the board will discuss Thomas Park& Meli Park renovations. Thomas Park building will be demolished and a new state of the art facility will be build. The Parks and Recreation offices will be at new Thomas building. Kristen informed to members about"The Pick a Seat Program." Sharon Nearn donated 3 more benches thru the Dania Beach Improvement Committee. Kristen mentioned to the board about I.T. Parker renovations, Kristen explained that renovations will include: new carpet, dance floor,replace curtain on stage,new kitchen cabinets, stage area, and that renovations will bring revenue to the city; renovations will start pending commission approval. Jimmy Paterman concerned about Chester Byrd Park,the north side area benches should • be moved to the center of the park,to avoid drug activity at night. Chi Brockman inquired about Frost Park security cameras Kristen informed him that P q ty > Frost Park has security cameras, Chip is concerned about vandalisms in the parking lot, and maybe in the future the city will install security cameras in the parking area. Information regarding lighting protection for 3 facilities, Mark informed the board about lighting protection and warning system. Mark forwarded quotes and a memo to the City Manager& Commission for approval. City Manager& Commission are considering Jeff Ellis&Associates to outsource the pool/beach lifeguards. The city could save money, Kristen mentioned that we can't put a price in a human life; furthermore our pool lifeguards are the best. It was discussed to change meeting day due to the Optimist Club schedule. Kristen mentioned to the board that the members should discuss it; the Parks &Recreation staff will accommodate members. Election of officers will be in next meeting's agenda. Members decided no to have a meeting in August, next meeting will be on Tuesday, September 201n Meeting adjourned at 6:55PM •
