6. Old Business Chris Barile: Has MAB heard from City about signs along water canal? Clive met with John, who knows about and it working on it, but has been going on for a long
time and Clive will call FWC Captain directly. Joe White: Is that not the FWC and do they not fix or preplace? Answer: “Slow Speed Minimum Wake” should be “Idle Speed No Wake”.
Joe White: can you please send blast e-mails so MAB is all on the same page. (City can provide). Add Alex Jacobi to e-mail list. 7. New Business
Several people asked Clive if MAB has summer recess. In prior years there were one- and two-month recesses. However, with vacancies, it was hard to get a quorum. Next meeting is in June 2017. MAB can vote if they want just July or both July and August off. County MAB does not meet again until September.
8. Comments
Joe White: When does city do Dania cleanup? Answer: Broward County partners with Dania to do waterway in March each year. Joe White: Can we do our own Dania cleanup? Clive will ask Sherie about any
other upcoming special events. Can partner with other groups including divers and snorkelers. Westrec takes care of Marina, City crews take care of beach trash cans. Hollywood rakes sand. (Correction: private contractor (BeachRaker) hired by City of Dania
Beach, rakes sand of seaweed daily.) It was suggested that the City adopt other alternatives such as signage asking people to take their empties with them, or fine those that leave litter behind using PD or undercovers, etc.
Chris Barile – make the recommendations to Parks and Recreation to consider posting signs to follow suit with other coastal cities that have ocean fronts and enforce the same rules.
Ryan Stone – note standard walking distance for trash cans important as people aren’t willing to walk as far to throw trash away. Joe White – consider one or two entrances to beach itself and receptacles at every entrance.
Clive and Chris need to report to Commission anyway and may be done during recess among other issues. Joe White: in Keys, they put curtain at end of each finger canal to help with
cleanup. Debris cannot go past air curtain. Get oxygen back into the water. 9. Adjournment Motioned by Ryan Stone; seconded by Ron Brozic at 6:34 p.m.
Board Members – If you are unable to attend a meeting, please call the Parks and Recreation Department (954) 924-6800, ext. 3626. Thank you.
