4. Reports and Discussions:
5. B.S.O Reports and/or Dania Beach Search & Rescue:
Nick Sanchez, Dania Beach Search & Rescue
There is a boat docked at Whiskey Creek. People complaining that there is a lot trash on the beach. This boat has
buoys set up around boat. He was asked to not block the channel (which he was previously doing, but not any
longer). It’s a tugboat ‐ Dean thinks he may have moved to transient dock now. Nick would like to know who he
gets assistance with regarding this issue.
Chris said it’s shared between three groups – Dania, Hollywood and John Lloyd.
Sharon asked if this would be a situation that a sheriff on the water would come in handy. Chris recapped request to
City for that sheriff on the water and that Dania Beach is the only city on water in Broward County without one.
Old Business:
Review of notes from 4/17/19 meeting:
Boat that was at Municipal Dock for 3 years finally moved to area with pump out.
Dean Grant ‐ Clive commented 4/17 that we need a contact/liaison between city and marina for issues. Would
like to look into changing that for future contract so someone helps oversees issues with Marina. Changes over
last 3 years have the marina moving towards a “trailer park” look vs a Marina. Would like the City Manager to
come to a meeting to discuss.
Dean has seen more people in the Marina doing work, painting, taking care of trash pick‐up.
Derelict boat still there – should boat have been there in the first place.
Linda Barber had requested at 4/17 meeting that John send a Do’s and Don’ts list to all boat owners ‐ that hasn’t
been done yet.
Is Pontoon Boat still there? Need to check.
6. New Business:
Read email aloud from 4/24 that Clive had sent to Eric Brown and Collin Donnelly. Email was from John Fiore,
Liaison for Broward County Marina Advisory, Broward County Park & Recreation Division.
Three major points in email –
1 – Large Australian Pine fallen into Dania Cut off Canal that needs to be removed.
2 – Fishing off boat dock at IT Parker Center not allowed.
3 – Recreational boats tied to northern most dock of Dania Marina not allowed.
Chris Barile suggested that email needs to be passed along to City Manager as well if approved by Clive.
Reviewed Marina contract for who oversees radio calls from channel 16.
Nick Sanchez, Dania Beach Search and Rescue said that they monitor the channel from 9‐5, 7 days a week.
Emergencies only – no dock questions.
Greg Galyo noted that other Marinas have someone monitoring Channel 16 for dock questions, medical, questions,
etc. Sharon Malone also noted that all other marinas do the same.
Thomas Angelo volunteered to be liaison between city and marina. Chris explained that liaison should be an
employee of the City and more than likely would be the Parks and Recreational Director since that is where this
board falls under.
Security Issue – kids coming through building and messing with Search and Rescue equipment.
7. Comments:
8. Adjournment: 6:58 pm ‐ Motioned by Greg Galyo and seconded by Sharon Malone.
