DANIA BEACH MARINE ADVISORY BOARD
Wednesday, July 17, 2019 – 6pm
1. Call to Order – Clive Taylor, 6:35pm

3. Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve minutes from May 15, 2019 by Chris Barile – 2nd by Greg Galyo.
4. Reports and Discussions:
a. Clive Taylor proposed changing meeting time to start at 6:30pm going forward. All agreed. Thomas Angelo
made a motion to approve and Chris Barile 2nd the motion.
b. Clive Taylor suggested taking August off. All agreed. Chris Barile made a motion to approve and Sharon
Malone 2nd the motion.
5. B.S.O Reports and/or Dania Beach Search & Rescue:
Nick Sanchez, Chief of Ocean Rescue.
a. Clive Taylor requested an update on beach conditions. Nick Sanchez said there has been a lot of seaweed on
the beach. New sand is in, now storm systems yet to test it. Beach attendance is a little lower around
Tower 1 since bar closure. Greg Galyo asked if the City has services to pick up seaweed daily – Nick said they
used the Beach Raker out of Pompano.
b. Chris Barile asked about boat that was anchored at Whiskey Creek and whether it was still there. Nick said it
was gone.
c. Chris asked if any more derelict boats have shown up – Nick said no.
d. Thomas Angelo asked if there is a lot of littering on the beach. Nick said they have issues at times, especially
with cigarettes.
e. Clive asked how often does BSO come down in their 4 wheelers – Nick Sanchez said they are only there on
holiday weekends.
f. Chris asked about Channel 16 radio – is anyone on the radio after 5pm? No
6. Old Business:
Email sent 4/24 from John Fiore, Liaison, Broward County Marina Advisory, Broward Cnty Park & Rec Division.
Three major points in email –
1 – Large Australian Pine fallen into Dania Cut off Canal – Clive noted that he has not seen it, so it’s removed.
2 – Fishing off boat dock at IT Parker Center not allowed – Have not heard anything further
3 – Recreational boats tied to northern most dock of Dania Marina not allowed – Removed
7. New Business:
a. Thomas Angelo went to a meeting recently in Hollywood about sand dunes. Asked Nick if he felt we would
benefit from the change to the sand dunes. Thomas will continue attending the meetings for information.
b. Would like Ana to come to our September meeting or meet separately with Clive anytime in August to
discuss MAB issues. Clive can meet at City Hall for her convenience. Clive would also like to set up a boat
trip through the waterways of Dania Beach with Ana and a County representative.
8. Comments:
Linda Barber asked who was John Fiore’s replacement now that he’s retired. Clive and Chris noted that Jay Stanford
was his replacement. They said County is out until September. Can still send minutes to John Fiore’s email address
for now.
