4. Reports and Discussions:
MAB Minutes now go to Jay Sanford jsanford@broward.org. 954-806-8609
They are missing Dania Beach minutes. Clive asked Linda to send March forward.
Note to group – if unable to attend meeting, let Clive, Linda or Abby at City know.
Craig said that City is looking for 12 additional officers. Linda said they need to add a Marine Patrol as well. Per
Clive, the Dania Beach Marine Advisory Board has provided a recommendation that a Marine Patrol is needed and
Dania Beach is one of the only cities in Broward County without a Marine Patrol.
For new members, Clive discussed how money is used from boat registrations and what the County Marine Advisory
Board does.
Discussed areas for new docks.
Craig brought up that apts, condo’s, townhouses to be built behind Casino near Mega Yacht Marina. Start
construction in January? Clive said property should be developed by Marina and be the Bahia Mar of Dania Beach.
Chris Barile – At County level, there is a Mega Yacht Marina to be renovated by Pier 66 in Ft. Lauderdale – last year
discussion about writing for a grant for some of the money to do that – John Fiore opposed to that since that’s not
for local boaters from local registration fees – Chris spoke with Jay Sanford about it as well. Money should not go to
Mega Yacht Marinas. Chris wanted to know if Jay has pursued that at last meeting (but meeting was canceled due
to Hurricane).
Clive said there are 43,000 registered small boaters in Broward County with an average boat length of 27 feet. Clive
reminded that upkeep on new docks to be done by City – if not maintained, they can ask for money back from
grants.
Patrick brought up people fishing on docks – City workers fishing from them – who is enforcing this. Signs are
needed. If County renovated or built docks, the County requires that City places no fishing signs.
4/24 letter from John Fiore at County about things to correct along our waterway – need update from Eric Brown on
this. Have all items been corrected.
City needs to comply with County requirements to put no fishing signs at IT Parker, City Marina at Beach, Marina on
30th Avenue (these all have county money in them). If signs are not in place, they County has the right to request
money back.
Craig asked who is responsible for launching ramps by IT Parker.
Chris Barile and Thomas Angelos responded that Westrec takes care of them.
We’ve had nobody from City at Dania Beach MAB meetings. Last person was Eric Brown who attended one meeting
after he first started. City Parks Directors can attend County MAB meetings as well. Chris suggested we invite Eric
back to a meeting but also get a regular liaison to come to meetings.
Clive will reach back out to City to meet one on one with new City Manager. Discussion had started before
hurricane. He will follow up again.
Chris asked Thomas Angelos about meeting City of Hollywood had about the sand dunes. Thomas said they were to
have a large restoration of 20 dunes and now Hollywood is only doing 2 dunes. Thomas will let us know if he hears
about any other meetings. Restoration on Dania Beach complete. Still issues. Unable to do vegetation.
Clive asked Nick Sanchez if he or someone else in his group would be interested in being a liaison between us and
City for things like grants or anything else that we need another voice for. Russell used to do it. Nick will check and
ask Mike. Need someone to represent us for things that are needed – reestablish that in written form. Nick said he
would be interested but is leaving Dania Beach soon.
