CRA WESITE UPDATE The update of the CRA website (www.daniabeachcra.org) with VUP Media is almost complete. Currently, the CRA is completing the text/content and VUP is wrapping up the structure of the website. We have started to discuss the most critical piece, the landing page. It is likely the new website will be ready to go live in the next 45 – 69 days. 4. PATCH Raised Bed Construction: Construction of the 64 new raised beds has been challenging. Compressing a 3-year project into 4 months is not just building faster. We also had to deal with finding vendors, complying with purchasing policies, arranging deliveries, and the weather. A long stretch of abnormal heat warnings shortened the afternoon workday and several days of heavy rain wiped out the entire day. We also expanded the scope of work by adding a complete rebuild of the irrigation system and building a second nursery. In spite of the challenges, as of the drafting of this report the 64 new raised beds are 85% complete and irrigation system is 90% complete. Our Unveiling Ceremony for the last hour is the homestretch update. The success of this project is a direct result of the efforts of Bianca Bacarossi, our Lead Farm Coordinator, Jamie Castoro, Fruitful Field Executive Director, Noah Siegel, Fruitful Field Farm Manager, with the administrative support of Denise Greenstein, CRA Executive Assistant. Volunteer Groups: What we accomplished in the homestretch was largely due to the success of recruiting volunteer groups, including: • September o Spirit Airlines, 17 volunteers o Spirit Airlines, 25 volunteers o NSU Osteopathic School, 14 volunteers Page 4 of 17 o Invitation Homes, 10 volunteers o Hands-On Broward, 10 volunteers • October (dates and numbers pending) o Spirit Airlines, 17 volunteers o Invitation Homes, 10 volunteers o Hands-On Broward Some seedlings have been started to transfer to the completed raised beds. We are planning to plant two fruit trees in each raised bed to generate a summer fruit crop. Papaya and avocado trees are being considered. PATCH Publicity: The Fruitful Field was interviewed by Edible South Florida for an article featuring the PATCH in the January publication.
