CAC MEETING MINUTES
March 20, 2018 4:00pm
Mr. Evan Snow introduced and gave the board members history of “Choose 954” and
it’s mission of bringing people together though shared passions in a variety of art
mediums; to include news letters, event calendars, social media platforms, and also
he unique creation of a 4 day art showing in private mansions by invitation only. They
have created a platform with popup art exhibits. They have partnered with Fort
Lauderdale Water Taxis & Hollywood CRA & Oakland Park CRA. Mr. Snow introduced
his business partner Mr. Andrew Martineau to the members and guest of the CACl, he
gave us a brief history on the foundation of “Choose 954” Mr. Snow then moved on to
their power point to highlight their past successful events. The presentation offered
the CAC a preview of suggestions in popup events, as well as utilizing the growth of
Dania to become a hub of a variety of many mediums of art events that Choose 954
offers as a full scale event company with support and backing in unique proven
custom design events to create the unique flavor of Dania in art that speaks through
the old and new. Guest member, Sandy from Sandy Seashell creations, asked how
they might incorporate the variety of antique shops so that they may feel apart of the
whole creation of new beginning without being left out. Mr. Martineau gave us a brief
description of a past event done similar for the city of Oakland Park near Dixie
Highway. He stated it was a success. He stated that the key part of every event is
based on building events around the history with a twist of new color to bring it all
alive without leaving the trademark of the old.
Comments:
Richelle Williams (CRA) talked about the possibility of connecting in the future with
the Dania Neighborhood Ambassador program; art related activities with exposure of
new activities that involve cultural with an art spin.
David Nuby mentioned a new era of new things, but keeping in mind the beauty of
history.
Kitte Arnold mentioned Dania Pointe at some point becoming a bigger part of Dania
arts. Rickelle’s response was not to expect much movement or participation projected
until 2020, if even then.
Emmanuel George responded that Dania Pointe is more retail not entertainment and
that being said, assume they have their own design of art already implemented for
the surrounding area.
Choose 954 closing comments: Suggested board members design a list of
accomplishments & goals they would like to see happen; suggested the CRA & CAC
conqure with suggestions by residents that they would like to see evolve in the city;
also a list of ideas and names of contacts to move forward with their services and
expertise that Choose 954 has to offer.
Kitte Arnold (Chair) gave salutations with request for contact information.
Art Walks:
Richelle Williams (CRA)
Art walks are scheduled to take place: July, Aug, Sept. Music, food trucks, and live
art are scheduled and underway. The CRA would like to utilize the CAC Gallery in
various art mediums to add to the richness of the program and relief from the out
doors in the participation of creating a venue inside the CAC gallery. The art walks
will begin on 1st street (garage) to Post Office Bldg on 21 NW 1st Ave, also to
include inside the atrium at city hall. Rickelle Williams stated the walks will be held
in the evening due to the summer months and heat. They will gauge on
participation to project through the year. Rickelle Williams would like to see a
variety of art mediums to be conducted in the atrium; music, visual art,
performances, youth participation. Rickelle Williams would like to movement before
June for scheduled July activation of program.
Kitte Arnold (Chair) suggest to form a subcommittee for atrium art to be included.
Kitte Arnold (Chair) asked if there is any word on the bridge project that was
discussed with Dan Murphy. Richelle Williams responded that she would check if
any updates exist. Linda Wilson said the last word on the project was
maintenance of upkeep and if the city will allow funds to keep it up. She believed
nothing else is holding it up from going forward. Linda Wilson also suggested that
Richelle Williams (CRA) seek to find an answer before sabbatical leave of the city
commissioners; i.e. needed permits and answers to maintenance, as it takes two
months to get design and works to move forward. Linda Wilson will forward a
copy of resolution to Kisha Payne.
Kitte Arnold(Chair) mentioned a design she happened to see at another location
of a bridge in the city of an art design she admired. Kitte Arnold (Chair) thought
that one similar could be done for bridge on Old Griffin Road. She stated that the
project could be done quickly if we could make something happen soon.
Old Business:
Mural Project:
Linda Wilson: stated road block - No walls available, conflict of interest in
who’ll absorb cost for materials. City commissioners feel this is not a cost to
be incurred for a private business. Emmanuel George said he was working
on possibilities, but so far still disapproval from Ford family mural agreement
of terms.
Kitte Arnold (Chair) opened the discussion of addressing tourist sales tax money per
Tony Welsh’s (Vice Chair) suggestion from precious CAC meeting; for public art and
also a letter to be drafted as a need for new developers to utilize local artist for
chosen art as embellishments to their new sites in the city of Dania. David Nuby
suggested Kitte Arnold (Chair) to draft up a letter to address to the (CRA) to be
presented before the commissioners for agreement or direction to move forward in
both areas. Rickelle Williams will present the letter when done.
Signal Box Art:
Joan Grainer would like to know if there is money available to move forward.
Joan would like to see children’s art near schools only. Rickelle Williams is digging
through 2015 files for box locations. Kit has information that she will forward to
Rickelle Williams on locations. Rickelle Williams stated she has located 18 boxes so
far and is driving around to locate if existing painting are still intact. Kit Arnold can
assist with map from past committee. Joan Grainger also has additional maps.
Emmanuel George would like to see a new box painted near Attucks Middle School
to compliment J.A. Ely, the former principal of Attucks Middle School. Linda Wilson
suggested intermingling history and children's art near or around school areas. Joan
Grainger suggested a subcommittee for ideas for box art & “Call to Artist.”
Kitte Arnold(Chair)has printer information for screens for boxes.

Sandy Goldbeach
Rickelle Williams stated that artist and cost of both with selection of artist is left
to the selected Concession Air to take care of decision of cost. Kimberly from
Gallery of Amazing Things asked about participation and being included as one
of the booths. Sandy Goldbeach stated that the artist should not be five & dime
but that it should be kept to true artist. Joan Grainger suggested that the CAC
be allowed to approve of the art before hand as a collective board. Kitte Arnold
(Chair) suggested that we do a “Call to Artist” and keep it as fine art. Linda
Wilson stated that Concession Air was chosen to conduct all business related to
the program, but she believed that they visit a set of guidelines to be set in
place for the selection to be agreeable with the CAC & CRA boards. Rickelle
Williams stated that keep in mind that balance is needed while we begin this
endeavor. Rickelle Williams will accept a list of artist to be considered. Kitte
Arnold (Chair) will inform the board with updates.
Kitte Arnold (Chair) would like to have funding for signal boxes separately. Rickelle
Williams stated to submit a budget request for signal box coverage to commissioners
or to CAC. Linda Wilson suggested to make proposal to CAC then in return go
before the commissioners as a mentor for the CAC. Kitte Arnold (Chair) would like all
as board members to be in union as one voice to present budget. Rickelle Williams
stated that we would present as a board to the CRA or Commissioners or both, but
they would have to adhere and abide by CRA rules and regulations.

they can assist in Public Art , marketing and funds towards the gallery needs,
but their department needs a list ASAP. Funding for the Signal Boxes will not to
