HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-09-11 Creative Arts Council Advisory Board Minutes Creative Art Counsel of Dania Meeting in City Hall Conference Room Meeting Minutes, September 11, 2018 Call to Order: Vice Chair: Tony Walsh; Introductions, including new members Attendance Sheet Passed. Kitte attended meeting via telephone. Old Business: A. Minutes of July 2018: Motion: Patty; 2nd Sandy; Unanimous approval. B. Secretary Selection: There have been no members to step forward to assume the position. Linda Suggested CRA looks into software that can record and transcribe minutes. She will continue duties until after Election and appointment of any new CACAB members. Further Discussion tabled until October meeting. C. Sub Committee Report: Utility Box(es): (1) Joan presented the Sub-Committee results from the “Marina” Call to Artists. Committee narrowed submittals to 5 finalists. No artist names were revealed. Each of the selection photos was shown, and votes called for each one. Two finalists were determined and a fi- nal vote taken. The winning artwork was “Pelican, Turtle and Children”. This will be sub- mitted to the CRA Board on Oct. 9, along with the Utility box artwork for box across from Attucks Middle School. Further discussion on “Call to Artist Policies and Procedures” to be discussed at next meeting. Linda will provide all the iterations she has from prior discus- sions for Committee review at Oct.16 meeting. Procedure for submittal finalized through CRA & City Attorney. (2) Atrium Signage and suggestions for Logo and Signage: Kisha passed around several it- erations of the potential Logo and signage. Kitte had authored several examples months ago. Since signage has not been funded by the Commission along with the Atrium addition- al hardware, we will try to move forward with a finalization. Review was made but no de- termination made. Preferred design narrowed, Final decision” Oct. 16 meeting. We have approx. $700 for signage. D. DAD Atrium Art Gallery assistance/volunteers: Linda noted that since it began in June, she has taken responsibility for food, etc., and seeking auxiliary artists for the Atrium. Although there have been contributions of beverages, and food in the past, there is a lack of labor to help. Set-up each month 3:00PM. Henriette has the responsibility of Curator for the main- exhibits and review or aux artists. Plans to continue DAD & Atrium Events: Fall and thereafter? Linda explained she did June- Sept exhibits, but did not want to assume responsibility every month. CACAB members need to step up to assist. Who will help for future Exhibits; Auxiliary Artists & Musicians? Other CACAB members need to step in to assist with the Monthly requirements, food & contributions, and auxiliary artist suggestions for review/acceptance. Sandy offered to take over with assistance from Linda and/or others. For October and until other volunteers step forward. Reception for new Artists will be held from 5-7:00PM the same night as Da- nia After Dark. E. Gallery Report. Thank you we have the hardware and rods but not certain we received the wood track for the installation. Will check when Kitte returns. New Business: Tabled to next meeting. October: Mural opportunity to move forward: City Garage; 2 Com- munity Centers Invitation to artists to attend CACAB meetings? (Need controls of short and to the point comments from our members.) Board Members/Staff Comments Armand would like to have an item on the agenda early in the Next Meeting. Kitte submitted next artwork samples for November primary artist exhibit. Richard DuBois and 2 other artists. Linda mentioned a lighting solution needed for Atrium displays. CRA please see if can be worked out with Public Works. Armand asked how new members can be added. Submit Resume to CRA for considerations as openings are available. Canterbury Square also a great lost opportunity, with no lighting. Emmanuel: Art Basel Jan 20-26; Any chance of our being featured in Ads for Art Basel, Choose 954, etc.? Public Comments Guest: Sharon Allen: One of the main gallery Artists thanked CACAB and Atrium for giving her opportunity. It has been successful. She would volunteer to assist CACAB and Atrium. Would like to become a part of the CACAB. Gave some background and suggestions. Possi- ble “Open House” at Chamber & Dania Woman’s Club. Next Meeting: Oct. 16, 2018 Adjournment 5:45PM
