Reports and Discussion items A.Art in the Hall Booked til July. 1.Scissor Lift approved 2.Divider in hall removed B. Mural Committee 1. Submission form is Live, Laura Mentions a little glitch in how the clicks to view the picture of the wall are diyetered to another page and it has no back button. 2. Laura reports that one of the artists had some trouble submitting using Firefox browser. If any other artists are having trouble they are advised to reach out to Laura or Luis. 3. Joan also mentioned that separating the photo when posting the link. Joan contributed to the dispersion of the call to artists. She also mentions a lack of accountability amongst the mural committee in strategically assigning individuals to send it to the various outlets on her list. She also mentioned the importance of Instagram being the best social media outlet to reach artists. 4. Laura and Tony Ask Joan to resend her resources to everyone again, Kisha also would like to receive the link to aid sending it out to more outlets. She also reiterates that Luis is the point of contact for Mural Submission questions. 5. Linda asked the committee about the price points for the mural. Laura mentions that a well established artist quoted possibilities ranging from $12,000 to $50,0000. 2. Budget for Mural Discussion Tamara states There is no cap on the budget ,we want to see all possibilities and complexities. The also mentioned Creative ways to fund, sponsorships, events, grants. In light of $50,000 being quotes the city Commission did not decide to impose a cap on the budget. 1 Tuesday, March 19, 2019 City commission sees it as an investment and an opportunity to offer sponsorships to raise the funds. Range of time the Mural will be displayed- Linda mentions that having the mural painted on removable panels could help preserve its longevity. The future redevelopment of the City Center could affect how long the mural stays up at this location. Laura began a discussion on Copy rights for artist and whether this will be a work for hire or if we would offer commissions to the artist in the event that we produce merchandise from the artwork created. Find out from other cities of the protocol to copyright art. The CRA will be the point of contact for the verbiage behind the mural artist agreement. Joan mentions that the Broward Cultural Committee will have plenty of information on this topic. C. Budget Linda mentions to the group that the Draft is located on last page of Packet. It covers the budget projections through the end of the year and the next fiscal year. Budget needs to be released ASAP and the next we will create the master, short and long term goals and Budget. FDOT only involved in Mural on US1 and old griffin , Water Management district will be point of contact for murals on bridges at Sterling Road and Bryan, Old Giffin and Griffin. She also mentions the possibility of adding a sculpture to the Median that leads into the main downtown area from the north. Linda suggests that we keep preservation such as sealants and paint supplies to be factored into the budget and that Sherwin Williams would be a great way to find out the cost of some of these protective measures. Linda Calls for more people to get their hands in the Budget and Master plan. Tamara suggests contacting Bill Harris and Mark Lafaria (SP.)…. Who have an existing relationship with FDOT. Suggestions from Tamara, to keep future murals and bridges in theme with each other and with City Branded Logo. Tamara mentions stamping concrete as a great and inexpensive way to keep the city logo and brand ubiquitous within the city. 2 Tuesday, March 19, 2019 Division of Cultural affairs and future developers to showcase public art on all future projects. D. Unfinished Biz 1. Signal boxes - Historic box, glitch is being rectified. Next, the Permit will need to be pulled by Image 360 for historic and marina box (FDOT) and both will be inspected for Damage. Joan mentions a gentleman named Alex Vickers, works for Broward county- takes submissions around city property of repairs that need to be done in public areas. Permits for Signal boxes are do be done by the city and not the CRA. A contact named Etienne is the point of contact for all things signal box related. Kisha has been in contact with Alex. RE: Marina Box - will still need to prepare an invoice for the artist. Boxes has been inspected and Image 360 is responsible for pulling permits through the city. For FDOT Boxes, Permits will need to go through the County. 2. Art Gallery Set up Current artwork will be displayed for the next month. Take down and install will occur in one day in April and the reception will occur in June. Board Member Comments 1. Emmanuel mentions an event at Blanche Ely historical Museum tomorrow 3/20/19 at 10am for ribbon cutting. Art commemorating Pompano’s History. Emm. Sees an opportunity for Dania to create a historical society for Dania / Liberia and the importance of J Ely to our history in this area. It will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am-2pm and Saturdays 10-4 . 2. Sandy Thanks Kisha for microphone at the most recent Dania After Dark. 3. Linda strongly suggests a push for a historical society similar to Hollywood and Broward county. A lot of lost historical facts missing from mid 1800’s forward. City should start making contact with Mc Elyea’s family, to obtain facts and artifacts. A better display location for historical photos graphs should be on the agenda. Photos should be placed and a historical society would be an asset to the city. 3 Tuesday, March 19, 2019 Kisha CRA Liaison - Thanks CACAB for promoting the arts and events hosted by the CRA. Hands out Hospitality passes for the members of the CACAB. Linda mentions the lack of cooperation from local hotels, with promoting Dania Events because of “branding issues” . Currently most hotels will publish adds in their guidebooks for a fee. Kisha mentions art of community grant that is wrapping up, the CRA is circling back around to promote an event that launches the art history of Dania Beach. Community members submitted stories to transform into art pieces for the tour (end product of grant) Scheduling for this will occur sometime in April in the Gallery. Concepts are pretty developed and there is opportunity for feedback and suggestions. Gallery located in Pink house W. Dania Beach Blvd. Joan mentioned how nicely a box on Bryan road was fixed. Tamara - Commission Liaison. There is a possibility to create an interactive exhibit in the future to capture historical significance. She mentions her standpoint on historical events and figures that are controversial for member of the community. Please be mindful of the distinction of celebrated and showcasing history. 4
