HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-1995-122RESOLUTTONNO. 122-9s A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA SUPPORTING THE ACQUISITION OF THE REMAINING PRIVATELY OWNED BEACH FRONT PROPERTY LOCATED NORTH OF THE CITY'S FISHING PIER FOR PUBLIC NATURAL RESOURCE CONSERVATION/PASSIVE OUTDOOR RECREATION PURPOSES WTHIN THE CITY LIMITS; STATING THE AVAILABILITY OF GRANT FUNDS FROM FLORIDA COMMUNITIES TRUST PRESERVATION 2000-5; AUTHORIZING THE APPROPRIATE CITY OFFICIALS TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR PRESERVATION 2000-5 GRANT FUNDS; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City wishes to purchase the remaining two parcels of private property located on the beach between the City's fishing pier and John U. Lloyd State Park, which the City intends to develop with the assistance of "at- risk" children for the purposes of a public natural resource conservation/passive open space recreation park and overnight campground; and WHEREAS, the State of Florida, through the Preservation 2000-5 program of the Florida Communities Trust, has allocated funds for distribution to municipalities to further their Growth Management, natural resource conservation and outdoor recreation directives with a portion of the funds set aside for innovative juvenile alrisk programs; and WHEREAS, the purchase of the property by the City is within the scope of the intended purposes of the Preservation 2000-5 program; and WHEREAS, the receipt of a Preservation 2000-5 grant would benefit the citizens and residents of the City by reducing the acquisition cost of the park property. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA, Section 1. That the City would benefit significantly by the receipt of a State of Florida Preservation 2000-5 grant providing assistance in the purchase of the two remaining privately owned beach front parcels for outdoor recreation and conservation purposes Section 2. That the appropriate officials are authorized and instructed to forward to the State of Florida an application for a Preservation 2000-5 grant on behalf of the City. Section 3. That this resolution shall be effective immediately upon is passage.
