HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-1995-112RESOLUTION NO. 112-es A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA, CREATING A CITY CHARTER REVIEW BOARD; PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS; PROVIDTNG FOR THE POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE BOARD; PROVIDING FOR RECOMMENDATIONS; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Commission has determined the need to investigate the possibility of making certain changes in the Dania Charter, and WHEREAS, the City Commission is desirous of receiving input from the citizens of the City of Dania regarding proposed changes; and WHEREAS, the City Commission has determined the need for an Advisory Board to function in this liaison capacity; WHEREAS, the City Commission has the authority to amend said Charter in accordance with the provisions of Florida Statutes Charter 166.031 and the procedures set forth therein; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA; Section 1. That a City Charter Review Board is hereby established. The composition and function of the Charter Review Board is as follows: a. The board shall consist of ten (10) members. The Mayor and each Commissioner shall appoint two (2) members. b. The person selected shall meet the criteria and serve in accordance with the provisions contained in Pt Xl, Article 3, Section 't of the City Charter. c. The powers and duties of the Charter Review Board shall consist of advising the City Commission of the areas of the current City Charter in need of change, and advising of specific changes as approved by a majority vote of the City Charter Review Board. The recommendations of the Board, whether informal or formal and whether upon majority vote or in the course of discussion, shall be of advisory nature only and shall not be binding upon the City Commission. d. Each appointed board member shall serve at the pleasure of the Commissioner appointing them and shall remain on the board until removed by the Commissioner who appointed them or, until such time as the Commissioner no longer holds office. Advisors: The Commission, from time to time, may appoint advisors to Section 2. Recommendations of the board shall be made on or before January 1, 1996, at which time the Charter Review Board will automatically be dissolved unless extended by resolution of the City Commission.
