A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA,
DEGLARING THE SUNDAY BEFORE THE OFFICIAL
NATIONAL HOLIDAY AS DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING,
JR,, "KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE COUNTYWIDE TRTBUTE
DAY", JANUARY 14, 1996; AND PROVID|NG FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE lT RESOLVED that the City of Dania recognizes that THE MARTTN LUTHER
KING, JR. TRIBUTE COMMITTEE OF BROWARD COUNTY, a coatition of tnterested
lndividuals, religious institutions and community organizations, designed to facilitate the
development of group activities across Broward county in the spirit of Martin Luther
King, Jr., to support communities working together in an integrated society towards a
common goal of peaceful coexistence in a "BELOVED COMMUNITY";
WHEREAS, the City of Dania recognizes that the Tribute Committee remains
committed to the cultural and creative integrity of each individual project and every
municipality in Broward County, Florida, United States of America;
WHEREAS, that the City of Dania recognizes that this is the first countywide
tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and all municipalities of Broward County join the
Tribute Committee in their dedication to this "mission statement" and the need to bring
the community together.
WHEREAS, that the citizens of the City of Dania and all municipalities of
Broward County join the diverse cross-section and composition of the Committee in
recognizing Dr. King's vision in bringing people together from all over the Country to
present an evening intended to promote cultural diversity and harmony.
WHEREAS, this event will be an opportunity to learn about the impact of the civil
rights movement in Broward County;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA;
Section 1. That the Sunday before the official National Holiday be observed
as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "KEEP THE DREAM ALTVE COUNTYWTDE TRTBUTE
DAY"-JANUARY 14, 1996.
That this resolution shall take effect immediately upon its passage
PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 28TH DAY OF NOVEMBER, 1995.

We will also appreciate your suPport ol the 'Souvenir
Program" with a listing of events planned for celebration of
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.
We will appreciate your support of the Program by
sending a check for $100 to help delray costs ol
publication and support the special event to be held at the
Broward Center lor the Performing Arts. Checks should be
payable to: (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 1996 Souvenir
Program / Broward Library Foundation).
It is urgent your Leisure Service Department advise
us of your plapned activities to celebrate the Dr. Martin

Several months ago the MLK Tribute Committee sent you a
survey to determine your community's activities for the Nationaf
Martin Luther King Celebration. You expressed some interest in
being involved in a count.yvride cel-ebration. We are in the
process of preparing a community calendar that will- highlight
lctivities Ltrat wltl be happening on or before Dr' King's
birthday, We wou.Ld appreciate you submitting your city's
activities by December 7th. Please fax the information to the
Broward Courity Library outreach Services Department at 357-5681 .
