1. Interviews for BSO District II Chief position
Major Carney, BSO, gave a brief summary of the two candidates being recommended by the
Broward Sheriff's Office for the Dania position of BSO District II Chief.
Captain Rick A. Frey mentioned that his current position with the Broward Sheriff's Office is
Commander of the Suppon Division of the Criminal Investigations Bureau. He presented his
law enforcement experience warranting his ability to handle the Dania Commander position
and responded to questions from the Commission pertaining to the style of police
enforcement needed in Dania.
Captain Paul J. Lauria explained that he is currently Commander of the Communications
Division of the Broward Sheriff's Office. He provided information on his 20 years in law
enforcement and responded to questions from the Commission on his experience, excessive
force issues and the need for community contact with the BSO.
The Commission expressed its appreciation to the candidates and agreed to address the
selection of a Dania Commander at the next regular meeting.
2. Bud Palm, Utilities Director, recommended to purchase a Vac-con truck to clean sewer
lines, catch basins and drain pipes throughout the City all year long opposed to bidding this

s/ork out at $40,OOO annually. Discussion followed on rhe need to hire an employee to
operate the truck and the salary being paid from Road and Street Funds.
The Commission generally agreed with Mr. Palm's recommendation and requested him to
provide funher cost information on the maintenance, warranty and personnel.
