A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CIry
OF DANIA, FLORIDA, DISAPPROVING THE USE OF
THREE (3) DIGIT TELEPHONE NUMBERS BY PRIVATE
AMBULANCE SERVICE PROVIDERS FOR EMERGENCY
SERVICES; ENCOURAGING ALL REGULATORY ENTITIES
TO PROH|B|T THE USE OF AN ADDTTTONAL THREE (3)
DIGIT EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE NUMBER BY
PRIVATE AMBULANCE COMPANIES; PROVIDING FOR
CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND
PROVDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the State of Florida and all residents therein recognize 9-1-1
as the accepted and prevalent number for emergency medical services; and'
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City of Dania, Florida,
('City), that certain private ambulance companies are attempting to obtain an
additional three (3) digit emergency number; and
WHEREAS, it has taken years for the public to accept and use the current
9-1-1 emergency number for all emergency calls, including those for emergency
medical services; and
WHEREAS, an additional emergency medical service number would only
serve to confuse people in cases of medical emergencies as to which is the
proper number to call; and

WHEREAS, the confusion that would be caused by an additional three (3)
digit emergency number would endanger the health, safety, and well-being of the
residents of the City; and

WHEREAS, the current g-1-1 system functions effectively to ensure the
safety and well-being of the residents of the City, and an additional emergency
medical service number is not necessary; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Dania disapproves of the
additional three (3) digit emergency medical service number and strongly urges
regulatory entities from authorizing private ambulance companies from obtaining
the use of such emergency number;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA, THAT:
Section 1 The foregoing 'WHEREAS', clauses are true and correct
and hereby ratified and confirmed by the City Commission.
Section 2 The City Commission of the City of Dania, Florida, hereby
disapproves of the additional three (3) digit emergency medical service number
and strongly urges regulatory entities from authorizing private ambulance
companies from obtaining the use of such emergency number.
Section 3. All Resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
Section 4. If any clause, section, other part or application of this
Resolution is held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or
invalid, in part or application, it shall not affect the validity of the remaining
portions or applications of this Resolution.
Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its
passage and adoption.
