HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-1996-105RESOLUTION NO. 105-96 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE EAS RD HO!INITIATIVE AS RECOMMENDED BY THE GOVERNOR'S COMMISSION FOR A SUSTAINABLE SOUTH FLORIDA; URGING STATE, COUNTY AND LOCAL LEGISLATORS TO ADOPT LEGISLATION TO IMPLEMENT EASTWARD HO!: PROVIDING FOR CONFLTCTS; pROVtDtNG FOR SEVERABILIry; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTTVE DATE. WHEREAS, on or about June, 1996, the South Florida Regional planning council in conjunction with the Treasure coast Regional planning council pursuant to an initiative of the Governor's Commission for a sustainable South Florida, prepared an issues and options report intended to provide a foundation for the implementation of Eastward Hol Revitalizino South Florida's Urban Core; and WHEREAS, the City of Dania is located within the corridor located between the Florida East Coast ('FEC") and Chesapeake Seaboard Railroad ("CSX") along U.S-1 and Dixie Highway throughout the tri-county area; and WHEREAS, the City Manager has requested the City Commission to adopt this Resolution urging the Broward Delegation and others to implement State, County and local legislation to encourage infill and redevelopment of lands not adjacent to the Everglades; to protect the environment and encourage compact, efficient development matters; to forge a publiciprivate partnership which understands that compact urban density results in an overall cost reduction; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Dania deems it to be in the best interest of the residents of the City of Dania to adopt this resolution. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA, FLORIDA, THAT: Secti on 1.The aforementioned "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and certified as being true and correct and are incorporated herein. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Dania hereby adopts this Resolution in support of the Eastward Ho! initiative as recommended by the Governor's Commission for a Sustainable South Florida. 1 RESOLUTION NO. 105-96
