MINUTES TO MEETING i WED. JUNE 1I,2OO3
This was the first Marine Board meeting since the elections in March.
Iltroductions of all board members were done tonight.
Captain Glan Morris gave an update on the Dania Canal dredging project. The dredging
is completed.
NEWBUSINESS:
Javier Kanuit was introduced by Captain Glen and will be his backup.
Guest Gary Ludke from Planning and Zoning and member of the Charter Review Board
informed our board of a property in Dania which is in the path of the runway expansion
project. This was brought up for discussion among the board to help decide whether it
should used as a park or be developed. A vote was taken in favor of recommending the
property being developed.
Guests, Jerry and Barbara Estep attended this board meeting to present their case
regarding a variance request for a boat lift. Michael Morrison a neighbor of the Estep's
also attended in support of them. A week prior to this meeting, the Esteps provided board
members with information packets including photos so we could review the issue.
Michael Morrison originally had this lift installed next door to the Esteps property and
then sold the lift to the Esteps. So, the lift is actually being moved to the next property on
the canal. The Esteps want it installed. The Esteps researched the applicable ordinances
and reviewed the criteria with the Board. They are seeking the Board's recommendation
for approval ofthe variance.
The board voted and unanimously approved
Captain Glen Morris informed us that the manatee is now offthe endangered species list
He distributed documentation.
It was agreed at this meeting that future Board meetings will be held on the third
Wednesday of each month.
