Variance for Boat lift (to extend l0' into a 60'wide canal) 2. Treasure Cove proposed 52 dock/slip layout. For item l: Bob Anton presented documentation for a variance for a boat lift. A11 inforrnation was reviewed by the board. The board voted unanimously in favor of the variance. For item 2: (Treasure Cove) The dkectory ofcommunity Development, Larry Leeds read a statement of historical context concerning this issue. Larry advised that Mr. Posner (the developer ofTreasure Cove) has an appeal for docks to extend 8' beyond what is currently permitted. To make note, an appeal is not a yariance. A hearing for the appeal to the commission has not yet been determined. Larry clarified what is actually b€ing voted on. Ed Stacker appeared on behalf of Treasure Cove. He explained the packet of information that had been supplied to each board member. He presented an aerial view of the canal area ftom I 976 which was designed to help drain the everglades. Another aerial map was also presented in which Ed gave background history ofthe canal area. Treasure Cove is taking exception to Larry Leeds interpretation of tle codes. Ed passed out the code provision to the board to review. Ed Stacker introduced Shirley Marler (a retired Broward County Zoning official) who has intrepreted and enforced codes in her past. She stated that if this property was still unincorporated, a variance for this project would not have been required. She said to look at the original corridor and basin coutout. The layout is not an intrusion and was within the code on page 39.150. After these presentations, 17 individuals from Treasure Cove gave short speeches in favor ofthe dockage Karen Gottlieb a neighbor of Treaswe Cove, has issue with the dockage as it will present a problem with her current dock which has been on her property since 1979. OTHER: Larry Whitford, Sgt. Of Sheriffs Office Marine Dept, and Officer Mike McKlosky were introduced. The explained what their rnarine duties included. They explained their dept. has a derelict vessel grant for moving sunten vessels out of the waterways. Mike will be hacking where the revenue is going from situations that occur. They also reported that they have had successful prosecutions for boat durpings in parking lots or in canals. A local resident reported a houseboat left illegally on the canal however it is legally registered. The oflicers are aware ofthis and are hopeful that when the regishation expires in the near future, that they can then do something. A motion was made and voted on to keep the current board officers At 10: l2 pm the meeting was adjourned The board members had many qucstions for Treasure Cove and for Larry Leeds. Larry did not have answers to all questions. Based on the information the board did have, a vote was taken and it was a 6 to 3 vote in favor to grant the appeal for Treasure Cove.
