Kafouros Pat Chukerman Carol Stockocki Debby Bradford Rhonda Buckner MINUTES OF MEETING DANIA BEACH MARINE ADVISORY BOARD WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2009 - 6:00 P.M. Captain Jay Jackson, Dockmaster Deputy Jason Riddle, BSO Gary Rowe Bemard Swindell Chris Arutt Members Absent Craig McAdams (unexcused) Billy Phipps (unexcused) William Wosenitz (unexcused) Albert Owler (unexcused) Louis (Jeep) Webb (unexcused) Mike Grady (excused) 3. Approval ofMinutes ofJanuary 21,2009 Chairman Taylor motioned to approve the minutes, seconded by Debby Bradford. The motion carried unanimously. 4. Reports and Discussion There was nothing to report. 4.2 Derelict Vessels Report Deputy Riddle reported that the 65 foot schooner had been removed as stated in the last meeting, along with the smaller derelict boats. Deputy Riddle also noted that the BSO Marine Unit and City of Dania Beach Code Enforcement are working together to remove all derelict vessels in the city canals and rivers. Deputy Riddle also introduced his new sergeant in charge of the Marine Unit to the board, Sgt. Carlos Carrilto. Sgt. Carrillo advised the board ofJason's excellent work. Deputy Riddle stated that this report is in combination with the Marine Law Enforcement Report 1. Call to Order Chairman Clive Taylor called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. 2. Roll Call 4.1 Chairman's Report which now included enforcement of waterways in Dania Beach, along with the City ol Dania Beach Code Enforcement Department. 4.3 *+Combined with Derelict Vessel Report 4.4 Marina Update Captain Jackson noted that the 450 sheets of plywood to temporarily replace the decking have been delivered. Captain Jackson also noted that he has a sample of the plywood which consists of polycarbonate. which is grayish blue, easier to clean, and cooler to the touch. The plywood has a 25 year life which is better than pressure treated wood. He also noted that he is currently working on advertising in Dockside News, Waterfront News, and other local marine magazines regarding dock rentals. Captain Jackson noted that the Marina has 25 openings on the floating docks and 6 on the fixed docks. Captain Jackson noted that majority of the docks in Ft. Lauderdale are 100 ft which is the normal dock footage. Captain Jackson advised that they are working on contracts for the docks but it may take a while due to permitting and the EPA survey. 4.5 Banyan Bay Marine Review Chairman Taylor noted that Interim City Manager Colin Donnelly is making arrangements for the developers of the Banyan Bay Development to meet with board members for their input. The Banyan Bay Marina will consist of a rack and stack, a building, and a restaurant. 4.6 None Powered Sailboat Storase on the Beach Chairman Jackson noted that a guest speaker from the beaches wzrs supposed to be in attendance conceming the sailboat storage, but did not attend. Captain Jackson advised he will contact the lifeguard to have to attend to next meeting. 5. Old Business No old Business. 6. New Business John Kafouros made a suggestion to have the agenda and the minutes to be emailed to all members for review. There are two new board members Pat Chuckerman, appointed by Mayor Jones, she is a 3 year resident of Dania Beach relocated from Chicago, originally from the Dania Beach area and attended local high schools and she is also a member of the Chamber of Commerce and is Minutes of Meeting Dania Beach Marine Advisory Board Wednesday, February 18, 2008 2 7. Board Member Comments "(- currently employed by Awards Excellence Marketing Company. Rhonda Buckner, currently work for the Dania Beach Boat Club, and her son om Dockside Yacht Management and Services. Rhonda has been a Dania Beach Resident for many years. Guest Speaker Jimmy Crimminger noted the he spoke with Chairman John Rude of the Broward Urban fuver Trails Committee regarding curvature of the New River Project and that they are also working on making AIA a Scenic Route and would like to have input from the board. 7.
