vacancies now on the board that oeed to be replaced. They are Lester McKenny
(who officially resigned), Charlie McKenna (deceased) and Mark Latimer (has not
attended in several months).
Chairman Taylor welcomed the guests present this evening and asked if the guests
had any comments they would like to make before the meeting started. Mr. Lewis
said he and his wife had attended the last meeting. At that time he had questioned
some of the activities that were taking place at the marina. A reporter from the Sun
Sentinel had sat with them at the meeting and had requested an inteniery with
them the next day. She did interview them but they have not heard from her since.
Chairman Taylor said Mr. & Mrs. Lewis are tenants at the marina and he wanted
to make sure their voices are heard through this committee.
Chairman Taylor said he had been reading the board bylaws and they state a
written report is to be submitted to the City Commission not less than qu&rterly.
He said he is going to review the minutes of the previous meetings and prepare a
written report with the board recommendations and comments. The board has no
way of knowing whether the Commissioners are seeing a copy of the board minutes
or not.
l.
OIIicer Riddle was asked if he had anything to report, He said he had continued to
pursue the derelict vessels on the Dania Cut OIf Canal. There is a 65 ft. schooner
on the south New River Canal near the polver plant. A commercial salvage
company will have to be hired to remove it. The owner is known and it is now a
criminal investigation. There was a sailboat on the Dania Cut Off Canal just wet
of the south fork intersection. It was on the bottom and listing. It had been there
since Hurricane Wilma. It has now been removed.
Chairman Taylor mentioned the minutes cannot be approved this evening since
there is not r quoruD present
Mr. Lewis was asked if there was anything he wanted to bring to the attention of the
board. He commented that anyone could carry off anything they wanted to as there
are no questions asked by the so-called security. Hewas asked if he had seen any
maintenance work being done. IIis reply was "you can't be serious.' He said he
had called Kristen several times on various issues and she doesn't return calls.
Chairman Taylor commented the board had suggested the marina be placed under
the public service department since they are the people who handle the meintenance
work
Chairman Taylor said there is another matter he is concernd about. There is a
sailboat with no mast tied up more or less permanently at the floating docks near
the pier, It was nwer intended that overnight docking be permitted. Also it
happens to be at the handicapped ramp. With the pier opening soon there will be a
lot ofwaterfront dining. He strongly recommended that signs be posted saying "no
overnight docking" and (handicapped ramp". Olficer Riddle said the sailboat in
question has the permission of the City to be used as a floating office,
The board members urged Chairman Taylor to prepare the board report to the
Commission as soon as possible. AIso he was questioned whether there is anything
new on the dredsing situation. He said he has no new information on the subject.
Chairman Taylor adjourned the meeting at 7:10 p,m.
Clive Taylor, Chairman
Respectfully submitted,
