City of Dania Beach Parks, Recreation & Community Affairs Advisory Board Meeting Tuesday, October 20, 2009 C.W. Thomas Park Recreational Complex
Kurt Ely called the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M.
Members present: Tim Pelott Jimmy Peterman Judy Jensen Clare Frost Chris Barile Kurt Ely Chip Brockman Rosalind Curry
Members absent: Debra McElyea Lisa Drake Others present:
Mark Felicetty, Assistant Director Parks and Recreation
Kurt Ely requested excused absences for Lisa Drake and Debra McElyea, motion made by Judy Jensen, seconded by Jimmy Peterman. Motion approved unanimously.
Kurt Ely requested a motion to approve September 15 minutes, motion made by Tim Pelott,
seconded by Chris Barile. Motion approved unanimously.
Department Updates:
Mark Felicetty: Surveillance System operating at: Frost Park and Thomas Park, they are still
having issues at Meli Park, something to do with the interconnection between city hall and Meli
Park, working on resolving the problem. Mark Felicetty: Holiday Flea Market, Saturday, December 5th at Frost Park, this is the biggest Flea Market of the year. Clare Frost question about food vendors, Mark Felicetty replied that the
city sold food vendor’s spaces for $25.00, we will continue with food vendors, Kurt Ely asked if
vendors have insurance or a license to sell food, if someone gets sick after eating food from the vendors the city is responsible, Mark Felicetty will consult with City Attorney. Mark Felicetty: Turn your Boat into a Float Parade, Sunday, December 6th, applications are on
line, mail application with payment, this is a land parade with decorated boats, we are staging at
the Dania Jai Alai, boats will be judged at the beach, tailgate party, one ton tug, live music, food, Budweiser beer truck.
New Business:
Kurt Ely, November meeting at Frost Park, I will not attend the meeting, Jimmy Peterman will
conduct the meeting, December15 meeting at Meli Park with a Holiday Pool Party, January 19 place to be announced, Kurt Ely told the board members to think what they would like to see accomplished by March 2011 and setting goals for the board.

Chip Brockman, Linear Park putting benches on 95 degree weather, questioned if trees will be
placed behind the benches to make shade, also the roundabout will be removed and wasted
$40.000.00 Mark Felicetty replied that the amount is $300,000.00; Kurt Ely, the reason being removed is because they are taking private property and fire department couldn’t get around it. Kurt Ely if you are interested tune into Commissioner’s meeting.
Clare Frost, asked who handles the Marina, Mark Felicetty replied as of October 1st the Marina is
under Parks and Recreation, Clare Frost asked if the Marina will be handled by Westec, Mark Felicetty replied that they have to bid and for now is under Parks and Recreation, Clare Frost asked if as member of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board we get free parking passes, Mark Felicetty replied no.
Kurt Ely, property by Docker’s has a seawall problem, the owners of the property requested a 99 year lease for $1.00 per year so they will fix the sea wall, it is city property why couldn’t the city fix the problem and rent the spaces to different size boats this could be incorporated with the rest of Marina activities. Chris Barile, I watch every Commission meeting and nothing was ever
mentioned by the 2 people that want the lease about any wooden platform or dock and might be
done intentional, the only thing that was ever talked about it was the concrete seawall and then putting drainage from the street adjacent thru the sea wall they will responsible for that , I agree with Kurt Ely the city could build the sea wall if the intentions are to build a wooden dock and collect rent from boats the city should consider that, Mark Felicetty please make a
recommendation to someone to look into that. Kurt Ely asked if anyone disagree with the staff
going to the city to look into building a dock and renting the spaces, the canal is over 50 feet deep.
