Former Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) Deputy Daniel Munoz was fired in
September 2o25 following an internal investigation into the BSO's handling of
a triple murder in Tamarac earlier in the year. p
Details of Daniel Munoz's firing
. lnitial action: ln February 2025, Munoz was placed on administrative leave along
with other BSO employees following the murders. At the time, he was a Dania Beach
Deputy with five years of service.
. Termination: On September 12,2025, Eroward county Sheriff Gregory Tony
announced that Munoz was one of six employees fired as a result of the internal
investigation.
Reason for firing: Munoz and the other terminated employees were found to have
failed in their duties related to the Tamarac case. The internal affairs investigation
revealed "multitude of shortcomings' by deputies in their handling of the events
leading up to and during the murders.
The ca6e: The situation involved a woman who had repeatedly warned the BSO
about her husband's behavior before she and two others were killed. lnvestigators
found that some deputies stayed in their vehicles for more than 20 minutes before
approaching the scene, despite hearing gunshots and screams. a

agency's bungled handling of a man who repeatedly threatened his wife then killed
her, her father and a neighbor in Tamarac.
Since the Feb. 16 killings, 21 deputies have faced or will face discipline over their
handling ofthe murders of Mary Gingles, 34; her father, David Ponzer,64; and
neighbor Andrew Ferrin, 36. The moves stem not only from the shooting response
but from deputies' responses to more than a dozen calls for help in the months
Ieading up to the murders, SheriffGregory Tony announced on Friday.

"We had every opportunity to save that woman's lil'e," Tony said, adding that a laster
response could potentially have saved Mary and Ferritt, though not Ponzer, who was
ambushed and killed first. "'Ihere was nothing we could have done at that moment,
but we maybe had an opportunity to stop it if the investigative procedures before
this incident took place."
