AFFIDAVlT Urn vnbn fs
STATE OF FLORIDA
CITY OF DANIA BEACH
BEFORE ME, the undersigned authority, personally appeared GERALD CAMPBELL,
who being du ly swom, deposes and states:
1. My Qualifications
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Physics of Recording A(s. I am a Dante DDM
Administrator, a Certified Avid Pro Tools 210 Audio Operator, and an Audio Technical
Specialist. lwork professionally as an audio engineer.
Full Name: Gerald Campbell
Occupation/Title: Audio Engineer
Company/Organization: Nova Sound
Email: Campbellgtc@aol.com
Phone: 404-502-5073
2. Purpose of This Affidavit
I was asked to evaluate sound levels originating from the east-neighbor patio of the
residence located at408 SE Sth Street, Dania Beach, Florida, belonging to Mr. Shawn
Derosa.
Mr. Derosa, the adjoining property owner, is being negatively affected by sound coming
f rom this east-side neighbor.
It is scientifically inaccu rate to measure the impactof sound insrde oraround Mr.
Derosa's home from the front door, because the sound source is located at the rear of
the neighboring property.
Obstructions and structural barriers significantly alter the transmission of sound.
Therefore, in my professional opinion, the sound impact cannot be accurately assessed
from the front door.
4. lnadequacy of Front-Door Sound Testing
Testing sound at a point 100 feet away from the rear source, and on the opposite side of
A./ nr,t
3. Limitations on Measuring Sound from the Front Door
the structure, does not produce a reliable or representative measurement of how sound
affects the home.
5. Testing Method
I measured sound using a standard outdoor listening volume reference.
Typical social-gath ering volume ranges from 60-70 dB for music, general conversation
and moderate activity.
6. Sound Measurements at the Property
Nearthe source (side of the house): approximately 50 dB.
Back patio (directly across): approximately 40 dB.
Front door (street side): approximately 5 dB, which is effectively a dead zone.
A"dead zone" results from combined sound absorption and blocking by:
the front door,
concrete block walls,
the roof structu re,
overhangs and exterior coverings.
These structural elements prevenl sound from passing through directly, meaning the
n oise is sign ificantly louder closer to the sou rce than at the entry point approximately
140 feet away, plu s th e fact th at th e poin t of origin is located about 30 feet inside the
n eigh boring property.
7. Structural Causes of Sound Reduction
Between the patio sound source and the front of the property, sou nd must pass through
or arou nd:
Two con crete block walls,
S h awn's roof stru ctu re,
The neighbor's rear concrete patio wall and roof at 414 SE 5th Street.
These slructures substantially block, reflect, and absorb sound long before it reaches
lhe street.

8, How Sound Behaves in This Environment
Sound decreases naturally with distan ce. Additional acoustic principles relevant here
in clu de:
Diffraction - sound bending around obstacles.
Reflection - sound bouncing off hard surfaces.
Other elements on the property-such as air-condition ing.u nits, fencing, trees, concrete
structures, and even wind in the afnosphere-can absorb, reflect, ordeflectsound. As
a result, the sound heard at any given location depends heavily on where the listener is
positioned relative to these barriers.
9. Conclusion
Affiant Declaration
I declare that the statements made herein are true and correct to the best of my
knowledge and belief .

Based on my train ing, experience, and the measu rements taken, it is my professional
opinion that the sound originating from the rear patio area cannot be accurately judged
from the front yard or the public street.
The house stru ctu re and sunounding features drastically reduce and block the sound
before it reaches the front of the property.
