LANDSCAPE GRANT PROJECTS
(WEST AND EAST)

AREA
Over $200k in funding has been
secured through the Florida
Department of Transportation’s
Highway Beautification Grant,
2024-25 Cycle.
To maximize funding, the project was divided
into 2 segments for 2 separate grants:
•West – From SR5/US1 to SE 5th Ave
•East – From SE 5th Ave to City Boundary

•East Dania Beach Blvd
•Length approx. 5359.2 ft. / 1.015Miles
•Ten (10) Medians
•Plantable Medians = 75% of Road length
PROJECT SCOPE:
•Preserve existing canopy when possible
•Remove unsafe/unhealthy plant material
•Provide FL-Friendly/Native Landscape
•Meet Safety Criteria requirements
•Design to match Grant Proposal
•Irrigation system
•Upgrades to existing system (west)
•New Irrigation provided where no
system is currently in place (east).

•Only groundcovers are permitted for first 100’ of each median end, per FDM Chapter 212.11
•14 Existing trees are in violation of this requirement
•A Design Variation is being sought from FDOT to allow the existing trees to remain
NARROW MEDIANS - 9’ WIDE OR LESS
•4’ Offset / Clear Zone required from edge of median
•Medium and Large Trees/Palms are not permitted
•Small Frangible Trees/Palms permitted if mature trunk diameter is 4” or less
•A Design Variation is being sought from FDOT for the Existing Trees in conflict with this design criteria

SIGHT DISTANCE
•Clear Sight Triangles were plotted in the plans at all intersections and driveways per FDM Chapter 212 requirements
•A Design Variation is being sought in Median 3 for existing Royal and Solitaire palms that do not meet the spacing criteria for trees within the Limits of Clear Sight (Table 212.11.3).
