HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2026-107 Designation of Single Zip for City of Dania BeachRESOLUTION NO. 2026-107 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE UNITED STATES HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND UNITED STATES SENATE TO APPROVE A BILL RELATING TO DIRECTING THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE TO DESIGNATE A SINGLE, UNIQUE ZIP CODE FOR DANIA BEACH AND SEVERAL OTHER CITIES ACROSS THE UNITED STATES; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, House of Representatives Bill 3095, sponsored by United States Representative Lauren Boebert from the July 22,2025, 119th Congress, First Session, was adopted and referred to the Senate, which directed that the United States Postal Service to designate single, unique ZIP codes for certain communities; and WHEREAS, the bill directed the United States Postal Service to designate single, unique ZIP codes for certain communities; and WHEREAS, as the bill has yet to be adopted by the Senate, the City of Dania Beach requests the House of Representatives amend its bill to include the City of Dania Beach; and WHEREAS, United States Representative Mario Diaz Balart sponsored a similar bill, HR bill 672, which required the United States Postal Service to designate, within 270 days of enactment, a unique ZIP Code for several communities; and WHEREAS, neither Bill 3095, nor Bill 672 included the request for a unique United States ZIP Code for the City of Dania Beach; and WHEREAS, the City asks that both bills be amended and one of the bills be adopted by the House of Representatives and the Senate, as amended; and WHEREAS, the proud residents of the City of Dania Beach are constantly told that they are “Fort Lauderdale” or “Hollywood” for the purposes of their ZIP code for mailed correspondence; and WHEREAS, the City of Dania Beach is the oldest City in Broward County and was established in 1904; and WHEREAS, the City was created during the establishment and construction of the Florida East Coast (FEC) railroad by Henry Flagler; and RESOLUTION #2026-107 WHEREAS, the City is now a thriving municipality in Broward County, and its boundaries include the Ft. Lauderdale International Airport (even though Dania Beach was left out of the naming rights), and the Ft. Lauderdale Sea Port; and WHEREAS, the City would appreciate for the House of Representatives and the Senate to adopt a bill authorizing a single, unique ZIP Code for Dania Beach, (33004) and asks that the federal legislature direct the United States Post Office to create a unique ZIP Code for Dania Beach and any of the other cities requesting same. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the above “Whereas” clauses are ratified and confirmed, and they are made a part of and incorporated into this Resolution by this reference. Section 2. That the City urges the United States Legislature (both houses) adopt a law creating a single, unique ZIP Code for Dania Beach and the other cities requesting same, within a year of adoption of the bill. Section 3. That the City Clerk is requested to send a copy of this Resolution to the United States House of Representatives, the United States Senate; the United States Postmaster General, and any other interested parties. Section 4. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this Resolution are repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 5. That this Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED and ADOPTED on August 25, 2026. Motion by Commissioner Ryan, second by Commissioner Lewellen.
