HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2020-137 Support of No Smoking Policy in Open Public PlacesRESOLUTION NO.2020-137 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA, ESTABLISHING SUPPORT FOR A POLICY OF NO SMOKING IN OPEN PUBLIC SPACES- TO INCLUDE PARKS, SPORT FIELDS, CONSERVATION SITES AND BEACHES; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Dania Beach provides open spaces consisting of parks, sport fields, conservation sites and the beach which are owned and operated by the City of Dania ` Beach; and WHEREAS, second-hand smoke has been determined to cause or significantly contribute to a number of serious health related problems; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of many citizens of the City that the City Commission institute a policy supporting no smoking for Dania Beach's open spaces to help protect the public from the dangers of second-hand smoke; and WHEREAS, the City Commission is unable to enact an Ordinance banning smoking in public open spaces that will not contradict state law; and WHEREAS, the City Commission has determined that the health and safety of the citizens of Dania Beach and others who may use public open spaces in Dania Beach are very significant and important; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the foregoing "Whereas" clauses are ratified and confirmed to be true and correct and they are made a part of and are incorporated into this Resolution by reference. spaces.
