Home My WebLink About2020-02-17 Green Advisory Board Minutes MINUTES City of Dania Beach Green Advisory Board Regular Meeting Wednesday, February 17, 2020 5:15 PM The meeting was called to order at 5:17 PM. 1. ROLL CALL: Board Members Staff Patricia Chukerman, Chair Absent Corinne Lajoie, Assistant Director Alexis Guillen Present Richard Lorber, Planning & Zoning Manager Charlene Hogan Laura Lombardo Present Present Eleanor Norena, Director David Simonetta Present Motion to excuse Board member Chukerman’s absence was made by Board Member Lombardo and seconded by Board Member Simonetta, and was approved by the Board 4-0. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: January 20, 2021 Motion was made by David Simonetta and was seconded by Alexis Guillen - Motion passed 4-0. 3. CITIZENS’ COMMENTS: N/A 4. NEW BUSINESS: Board member Laura Lombardo was elected Board Chairman by a 4-0 vote. 5. OLD BUSINESS: 6. DISCUSSION/ACTION:  The Board discussed the idea of submitting a new proposal to the City for a Dania Beach Cleanup. o The Board discussed previous cleanup events, and that several different events are being planned. o They discussed various different types of cleanup events, such as waterway cleanups that might include divers, kayakers and stand-up paddleboards, beach and reef cleanups. o Neighborhood cleanups as a part of promoting awareness of Earth Day among residents were discussed. Events that featured measuring trash collected and awarding prizes. o The target date will be April 17, the weekend of Earth Day. The Board discussed trying to get funding to obtain trash pickers to give away to participants. Staff mentioned that Parks and Rec may be able to provide some pickers that would be on loan for the day. o Director Norena discussed the new trash buckets at Hollywood Beach. o The Board moved to try to obtain a $500 budget for the proposal. o The Board discussed holding a special meeting on March 3 at 5:30 pm to further plan the event; the motion passed 4-0. Staff to set the meeting on the calendar and provide addition information to the Board. o The Board requested that staff from the Public Information Office might be able to assist publicizing the event, Staff advised that Public Information Officer Katia Bordy would be invited to the special meeting on the 3rd. Staff will also ask Parks & Recreation Director Eric GAB Minutes 2 February 19, 2020 Brown if he would be able to speak to the Board on that evening about the ways they can coordinate. Staff to coordinate.  The Board discussed a mechanical waterway cleaning device produced by Ocean Habitat company. They will give any Dania beach resident a discount; retail mini reefs are about $250.  Laura discussed her visit to the Vervet Monkey Habitat east of the Airport Runway and asked if anybody else on the Board would be interested in being part of their efforts.  Next GAB Special Meeting is March 3, 2021 at 5:30 PM.  Next GAB Regular Meeting is March 17, 2021 at 5:15 PM. 7. ADJOURNMENT: Motion was made by Board Member Lombardo and seconded by to adjourn the meeting at 6:05 PM and it was seconded by Board Member Simonetta. Motion passed 4-0.
