RE: Updated Aquatic Management (Lakes' Maintenance) Agreements Between the
City and Aquatic Management Services, Inc.
For a substantial period of time (in excess of 10 years) Aquatic Management Services,
Inc. (and it predecessor company) has been maintaining a number of lakes which maintenance
aids the City in its stormwater management program. For the first time in 10 years, the
company has proposed modest increases to its monthly fees due to the increased costs of fuel.
A number of the lakes are maintained as a result of annexation commitments made by the City
some years ago to the residents of the Estates of Fort Lauderdale and Playland Isles. As an
example of one of the proposed increases, maintenance of "Lake George" in Playland Isles
has been proposed to increase from $425.00 to $437.00 monthly.
It is my understanding from the Public Service Department that the various affected
residents are satisfied with the services which do require a certain degree of care needed to
avoid upsetting each lake's own ecological balance.
Additionally, Public Services has reported that the services are consistently satisfactory.
While this work is something that can be competitively bid, that is a decision the City
Commission can require. In light of the modest increases and long-standing track record, this
is being presented to the City Commission for its decision. If approved, approval would be by
a Resolution.
