A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA
BEACH, FLORIDA, ENCOURAGING THE USE OF MEDITERRANEAN
STYLE ARCHITECTURE FOR ANY NEW PUBLIC BUILDING
CONSTRUCTION AND FOR CONSTRUCTION OF BUILDINGS BY THE
PRIVATE SECTOR; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER,
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, as the first City in Broward County, the City of Dania Beach has striven to
protect examples of its heritage by designating certain buildings in the City as historical
buildings; and
WHEREAS, as a City with a one hundred year history, the City wishes to ensure that the
buildings of the past will be compatible in appearance with new buildings expected to be
constructed as part of the City's redevelopment efforts; and
WHEREAS, the Mediterranean style of architecture is the style which is particularly
well-suited for use within the City since there is a substantial historical record of its use in a
number of municipalities existing in southeastern coastal areas in Florida; and
WHEREAS, such architectural style blends and harmonizes well with the City's historic
buildings, and it is a style that is aesthetically pleasing to many;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach, Florida, encourages
the use of Mediterranean style architecture for any new public building construction and for
construction of buildings by the private sector.
Section 2. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this Resolution
are repealed to the extent of such conflict.
• Section 3. That this Resolution shall be in force and take effect immediately upon its
passage and adoption.
