HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2005-044 Section 8 Housing Permission from CC • RESOLUTION NO. 2005-044 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THAT THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE DANIA BEACH HOUSING AUTHORITY PRESENT ANY PROPOSAL FOR ANY NEW "SECTION 8" LOW INCOME HOUSING VOUCHER APPLICATION ALLOCATIONS TO THE CITY COMMISSION BEFORE APPLYING TO THE FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND DEVELOPMENT ("HUD") FOR SUCH ALLOCATIONS; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the business operations of the Dania Beach Housing Authority are subject to the direction of the Board of Directors of the Authority; and WHEREAS, pursuant to state law, the City of Dania Beach has certain responsibilities with respect to the creation of such Authority, including the appointment of its Directors from time to time; and • WHEREAS, in light of current efforts involving substantial City redevelopment, it is important for the Authority to communicate with the City with respect to any applications for prospective low income housing opportunities; and WHEREAS, while not currently required by federal law, the City Commission requests that the Dania Beach Housing Authority Board of Directors consult with the City Commission at a public meeting, at which public participation and comments would be invited, before the Board files any application with HUD for new Section 8 housing (low income housing) voucher allocations; and WHEREAS, such request by the City Commission is in keeping with the spirit of cooperation which exists between the Commission and the Housing Authority Board; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach, Florida, requests that the Board of Directors of the Dania Beach Housing Authority present any proposal for any new "Section 8" low income housing voucher allocations to the City Commission before applying to the Federal Department of Housing and Development ("HUD") for such allocations. Section 2. That the City Clerk is directed to furnish a certified copy of this Resolution to all members of the Board of Directors of the Dania Beach Housing Authority, and to Rita Brown, Executive Director of the Housing Authority. Section 3. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this Resolution are repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 4. That this Resolution shall be in force and take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 9'h day of March, 2005. C.K.
