Home My WebLink AboutR-2005-189 Laptop Computers RESOLUTION NO. 2005-189 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO PURCHASE CITY LAPTOP COMPUTERS, WARRANTIES AND ASSOCIATED VEHICLE EQUIPMENT IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $18,000.00 FROM INSIGHT PUBLIC SECTOR, INC., PURSUANT TO STATE OF FLORIDA I.T. HARDWARE CONTRACT NO. 250-000-03-1; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Charter of the City of Dania Beach, Part III, Article 3, Section 4, Subsection 0), authorizes the City Manager to purchase supplies, services, equipment and materials for the city government in amounts in excess of Fifteen-Thousand Dollars ($15,000.00) without competitive bidding and without advertisement for bids if he is authorized to do so in advance by a resolution adopted by the City Commission and if such purchases are made pursuant to a competitive bid obtained within the last twelve (12) months by other governmental agencies such as the federal government, State of Florida or a Florida county or municipality; and WHEREAS, the City Manager has determined that it is necessary to purchase laptop computers, warranties and associated vehicle equipment for use by the City's Building and Code Enforcement divisions, in an amount not to exceed $18,000.00; and WHEREAS, the City Manager has determined that such purchase can be made at the least cost to the City by purchasing the laptop computers, warranties and associated vehicle equipment from Insight Public Sector, Inc., under State of Florida I.T. Hardware Contract No. 250-000-03-1, a copy of which is attached and made a part of this resolution as Exhibit "A"; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the City Manager is authorized to purchase city laptop computers, warranties and associated vehicle equipment from Insight Public Sector, Inc. under the State of Florida I.T.Hardware Contract No. 250-000-03-1, in an amount not to exceed $18,000.00. Section 2. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this Resolution shall be repealed to the extent of such conflict. • Section 3. These laptops are semi-ruggedized and are designed for use in field conditions. I did the specs on these computers based on the proposed usage. The pricing we are receiving is under the State of Florida Contract and is the same as large police or fire agencies receive. In addition to the laptops we will be purchasing port replicators. These devices will allow the users to utilize the laptops in their vehicle and at their desks. The laptop plugs in at the desk and the user has use of a regular keyboard, monitor and the recharging cord. The warranty is no fault replacement so accidental damage is covered for 3 years. In addition, we are purchasing Verizon aircards for each of the laptops. This will allow the inspectors to access the Internet from anywhere they are on the road. This access gives them the ability to use the HTE/Naviline application, provides them with access to the Broward Property Appraisers web site for identification of property along with other web sites they need and also gives them the ability to send and receive email. We are also developing a master form/database that will be used by the Code Enforcement staff to track all cases and activities on a specific case. This form will also be accessible from the field.
