HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-03-15 Organization City Commission Meeting Minutes ® MINUTES OF ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING DANIA BEACH CITY COMMISSION TUESDAY, MARCH 15, 2005 - 7:00 P.M. 1. Call to Order Mayor McElyea called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m. 2. Roll Call Present: Mayor: C.K. McElyea Vice-Mayor: Bob Mikes Commissioners: Robert Anton Robert Chunn Patricia Flury City Manager: Ivan Pato City Attorney: Tom Ansbro City Clerk: Louise Stilson 3. Acceptance of Certification of General Election A Motion to accept certification of General Election results from the Broward County Canvassing Board City Clerk Stilson announced the results of the March 8, 2005 Municipal Election. The three Elected Officials are: Anne Castro 2,091 votes Mayor Patricia Flury 1,994 votes Vice-Mayor John Bertino 1,941 votes Commissioner Commissioner Anton motioned to accept the Certification of the General Election results from the Broward County Canvassing Board for the March 8, 2005 Municipal Election; seconded by Commissioner Chunn. The motion carried on the following 5-0 Roll Call vote: Commissioner Anton Yes Vice-Mayor Mikes Yes Commissioner Chunn Yes Mayor McElyea Yes Commissioner Flury Yes Mayor McElyea commented he has enjoyed holding the Mayor's seat several times and it has been great to be here. • Commissioner Anton congratulated the newly elected officials and noted that he looked forward to working with them. Commissioner Chunn congratulated the newly elected officials and thanked everyone that supported him and were kind to him in his time of need. He thanked the people for giving him the opportunity to serve the City. Commissioner Flury thanked everyone for their support, especially those who worked on her campaign. She thanked Mayor McElyea for his year of service as Mayor. She also wished Commissioner Chunn and Vice-Mayor Mikes good luck on their future endeavors. She commented that it has been an experience serving with Commissioner Mikes and she admires him for the courage of his convictions. She noted that she has learned a lot from him and has a great deal of respect for him. Vice-Mayor Mikes congratulated the newly elected officials. He thanked everyone for their kind words and noted that he also learned a lot from Commissioner Flury. He noted the City will move forward as long as we elect people who will put the good will of the people of the City first, and their personal agendas in second place. Mayor McElyea wished Commissioner Mikes well. • 4. Administration of Oath of Office for Newly Elected Officials City Clerk Stilson administered the Oath of Office to the newly Elected Officials. 5. Seating of Elected Officials Vice-Mayor Bob Mikes and Commissioner Robert Chunn left the dais; Mayor C.K. McElyea stepped down to Commissioner C.K. McElyea. Mayor Anne Castro, Vice-Mayor Patricia Flury, and Commissioner John Bertino took their seats at the dais. Commissioner Bertino thanked his wife for the help she provided during his campaign. He also thanked all of his campaign workers and the voters of Dania Beach. He noted he will do the best job possible to gain the respect of the people who did not vote for him so that he will gain their support in the future. He commented we need to pull together and move forward to make the City of Dania Beach better than it already is. Mayor Castro thanked her family and friends for working hard and supporting her during her campaign. She agreed with Commissioner Bertino that it was time to come together and work hard to make Dania Beach a better place.
