HomeMy WebLinkAbout637 - MINUTES - City Commission MINUTES OF BREAKFAST MEETING DANIA BEACH CITY COMMISSION BROWARD SHERIFF'S OFFICE WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2004 — 9:00 A.M. Children from Dania Beach Elementary School welcomed everyone with songs of the holiday in the Atrium at City Hall. Chief Bryan Cowart thanked the children for coming to City Hall and spreading holiday cheer. He introduced Sheriff Ken Jenne, Mayor Mac McElyea, and City Manager Ivan Pato. Also present were Vice-Mayor Bob Mikes, City Commissioner Bob Anton, City Commissioner Patricia Flury, City Staff, and several staff members of the Broward Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Jenne thanked everyone for attending the breakfast meeting. He advised the BSO would be conducting Operation Scrooge along Federal Highway during the holiday season. This program is targeted toward pickpockets and to help fight robberies during the holiday season. Sheriff Jenne commented the Modello Park Traffic station has been very positive in the area. He told City Officials to contact his office if they had any questions because he would like to continue building a stronger positive relationship. Sheriff Jenne advised the BSO would be working with neighboring municipalities because crime knows no boundaries, and this would be more positive for everyone and would provide a more efficient operation. He commented on the fact that Dania Beach would be changing if the Slot Machine issue is approved and brought into the City. He assured City Officials that his office would work cooperatively with the City in this area because this is an opportunity to make sure Dania Beach is treated properly. Sheriff Jenne acknowledged the Dania Beach Fire Department as a first-class operation and stated Fire Chief Ken Land should be proud of what he has accomplished in the Department. He advised the BSO would be receiving a new Fire Boat in January 2005 and offered its assistance to the Dania Beach Fire Department. City Officials and Sheriff Jenne agreed that Dania Beach was blessed to have Chief Bryan Cowart and his staff. The deputies work well with City staff and citizens appreciate the visibility of the BSO throughout the City. The meeting adjourned at 10:14 a.m. CITY OF DANIA B ACH d G ATTEST: .
