Subject: Motorola Product Distribution
Dear Chief Cassano:
This letter is in response to your request for explanation of Motorola's distribution
approach for its two-way radio and portable tablet products.
Approximately 13 years ago, Motorola established two channels for distribution of its
two-way radio products. One channel, known as the dealer network or indirect channel
resells Motorola's low-tiered two-way radio products, and the other, known as the direct
sales force or direct channel, handles the sale of more sophisticated products and
communication systems to customers like the City of Dania Beach and Broward County.
The latter products and systems require a great deal more technical knowledge and
engineering resources to program and customize the products to meet the customer needs.
Such expertise is generally not available from the dealer network. Motorola's proprietary
SmartZone models ASTRO DIGITAL XTS5000, ASTRO DIGITAL XTL5000, and the
PT800 with the Private DataTAC Modem that the City of Dania Beach is considering
purchasing are among these high tiered sophisticated products. These products are
designed to operate on Motorola's SmartZone and Private DataTac system and are only
available through Motorola direct sales.
Motorola considers the City of Dania Beach to be an important account and values your
business. Motorola believes that its direct sales force can meet your needs and provide
you with the quality products and services you deserve.
I hope this answers your inquiry. Should you have any questions, please call your direct
focused account manager, Coty Cooper at 954-723-8748.
Sincerely,
/_Motor,'a nc.

Dear Chief Cassano,
On behalf of Motorola I would like to thank you for the opportunity to provide a complete
communications proposal to the City of Dania Beach. In regards to our last conversation,
you had requested information on the latest recommend date that you should submit your
purchase. The latest date that we recommend you place your order by is Friday, March 12,
2004.
Due to the complex nature of the fleet mapping, programming, installation and
optimization, we strongly recommend that you submit your purchase for the Voice and
Data equipment by the mentioned March 12th date. Because the City of Dania Beach
works closely with the City of Hollywood, Hallandale Beach, and other neighboring Cities,
it is crucial that Motorola and Broward County resources are available and have ample
time to complete your scope of work. By having the order placed by the March 12", 2004
we will have time to allocate these resources within the deeded timelines.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you or your staff may have.
Sincerely,
Coty Cooper
