SUBJECT: CRA Plan: Dania Beach Boulevard Lane Reduction
In September 2002, the City Commission approved a Community
Redevelopment Plan for downtown Dania Beach, including Federal
Highway and East Dania Beach Boulevard.
The Plan recommended reducing the number of vehicle travel lanes on
Dania Beach Boulevard (NE ls` Avenue to Gulfstream) from six to four
lanes. The lane reduction was recommended by the CRA consultants to
make Dania Beach more pedestrian friendly.
• Despite initially supporting the lane reduction over a year ago, FDOT
now requires the approval of the lane reduction by the Metropolitan
Planning Organization. It is unclear if MPO approval is actually
required, and staff will be requesting an opinion from the attorney on
the issue. In the event MPO approval is ultimately required, approval of
the attached resolution will be required.
