DANIA BEACH CITY COMMISSION
SPECIAL MEETING
FEBRUARY 20, 2003
4:30 P.M.
1. Call to order
Mayor Chunn called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m.
2. Roll Call:
Present:
Mayor Robert Chunn
Vice-Mayor Pat Flury
Commissioners: C.K. McElyea
Bob Mikes
City Manager: Ivan Pato
City Attorney: Tom Ansbro
City Clerk: Charlene Johnson
Absent:
Commissioner: John Bertino
A motion was made by Vice-Mayor Flury, seconded by Commissioner
McElyea, to excuse Commissioner Bertino. The motion passed on the
following 3/1 roll call vote:
Commissioner McElyea — yes Vice-Mayor Flury —yes
Commissioner Mikes — no Mayor Chunn —yes
3. Discussion of setting a date for dedication of the 803 Community
Center and BSO Substation and approval of proposed recognition
plaque. (Commissioner McElyea)
Commissioner McElyea was concerned with how the names were going to
be placed on the recognition plaque for the community center/BSO
substation. The property was purchased and renovations began during
one Mayor and Commissioners' term and the building will be completed
and dedicated under another Mayor and Commissioners' term.
Vice-Mayor Flury was of the opinion that when a building is dedicated the
sitting Commissioners should be placed on the plaque.

Commissioner Mikes suggested that the City Manager research what the
• general practice has been in the past and continue with that practice.
Mayor Chunn had no problem with whatever the Commission decided to
do.
Commissioner Mikes felt the only name that should be on the plaque is Dr.
Herman Wrice.
Vice-Mayor Flury didn't feel the building was even ready to be dedicated,
but when it was ready, she wanted to see a nice community event.
Commissioner Mikes suggested that the date for the dedication ceremony
be set at the next regular Commission meeting. The City Manager was
directed to come back with a recommended date for the dedication.
A motion was made by Commissioner Mikes, seconded by Commissioner
McElyea, to name the center the "Dr. Herman Wrice Community Center".
The motion passed on the following roll call vote:
Commissioner McElyea Vice-Mayor Flury — yes
Commissioner Mikes Mayor Chunn —yes

The meeting adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
