HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2003-080-armed forces RESOLUTION NO. 2003- 080 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING UNEQUIVOCAL SUPPORT FOR THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO SERVE IN THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICT; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, tens of thousands of brave and dedicated men and women who serve this country as members of the armed services have been called to active duty to insure the disarmament of Iraq and the advancement of the principles of democracy and individual freedom cherished by all Americans; and WHEREAS, all Americans, notwithstanding their political views regarding the use of military force in Iraq, should unite to support their fellow citizens who risk their lives in military service to the country; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach wishes to insure that the ongoing national and international public debate over the appropriateness of military intervention in Iraq should not be construed by the members of the United States Armed Services as a lack of support or appreciation for their individual commitment and willingness to sacrifice. WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach desires to send a clear and unequivocal message of appreciation and support to the men and women of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corp and Coast Guard who have been called to service for their Country. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this resolution. Section 2. That the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach, Florida, hereby expresses its unequivocal support for the men and women who serve the United States Armed Forces; wish each and every one of them safety and success in their dangerous mission of disarmament; and praise them and I RESOLUTION NO. 2003- 080 their families for the sacrifice they are making on behalf of all Americans and other people throughout the world who cherish freedom and democracy. Section 3. If any clause, section or other part of this Resolution shall be held by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or invalid, such unconstitutional or invalid part shall be considered as eliminated and in no way effecting the validity of the other provisions of this Resolution. Section 4. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 5. That this resolution shall take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption.
