Home My WebLink AboutR-2002-022 Authorizing the City Manager to purchase one (1) Vac-Tron Truck RESOLUTION NO. 2002-022 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO PURCHASE ONE (1) VAC-TRON TRUCK IN THE AMOUNT OF $45,499.00 FROM SOUTHERN SEWER EQUIPMENT SALES, UNDER CITY OF FORT MEADE BID AND PURCHASE ORDER NUMBER NO. 1001671, WITHOUT COMPETITIVE BIDDING AND WITHOUT ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Charter of the City of Dania Beach, Part III, Article 3, Section 4, Subsection (J), authorizes the city manager to purchase supplies, services, equipment and materials for the city government in amounts in excess of Fifteen Thousand Dollars ($15,000.00) without competitive bidding and without advertisement for bids if he is authorized to do so in advance by a resolution adopted by the city commission and if such purchases are made pursuant to a competitive bid obtained within the last twelve (12) months by other governmental agencies such as the Federal Government, State of Florida or a Florida county or municipality; and WHEREAS, the city manager has determined that it is necessary to purchase one (1) Vac-Tron Truck in the amount of $45,499.00 from Southern Sewer Equipment Sales, under City of Fort Meade bid and purchase order number no. 1001671; and WHEREAS, the city manager has determined that such purchase can be made at the least cost to the city by purchasing this Vac-Tron vacuum unit truck from Southern Sewer Equipment Sales, under City of Fort Meade bid and purchase order number no. 1001671; a copy of which is attached hereto and made a part hereof as Exhibit "A". NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA: 1 RESOLUTION NO. 2002-022 ® Section 1. This piece of equipment is highly specialized for doing many valuable functions for our Department. With the ® proliferation of underground utilities, including costly fiber optic lines, soft digging by vacuum is a safer and more cost efficient option than using the backhoe in many situations. We can repair leaks, fix sewer problems, clean sewer and storm drain lines and boxes, locate underground lines, etc., while avoiding tearing up roads, damaging property or other utilities as much as possible. While we currently use our Vac-Con truck for many of these duties, the truck needs a special operator, has limited access in many areas and gets a lot of wear and tear that could be avoided with a trailer mounted unit. Also the trailer unit can be safely taken to and operated by any of our employees, not just a CDL licensed and Vac-Con trained operator. This also allows quicker response time and avoids lengthy delays caused by routine maintenance or repairs done to the Vac-Con truck and allows multiple jobs to be done at the same time. This equipment would also be very valuable after a storm assisting in catch basin cleaning and maintenance and water removal. We are requesting this purchase from Southern Sewer Equipment Sales piggybacking off of The City Of Ft Meade Bid and Purchase Order# 1001671.
