HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2002-037 RESOLUTION NO. 2002-037 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE FIRE CHIEF TO APPLY FOR THE 2002 ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT FOR A PIERCE QUANTUM ENGINE IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $405,000.00; AUTHORIZING MATCHING FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $40,500.00 AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE AND EXECUTION OF SAID GRANT UPON ITS AWARD; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Dania Beach Fire Department is in need of a new Pierce Quantum Fire Engine; and WHEREAS, the FEMA/USFA has a grant program which offers financial assistance for such projects; and WHEREAS, the Fire Department would like to apply for the 2002 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program to cover 90% of the cost of$405,000.00 for the engine; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA. Section 1: That the Fire Department is hereby authorized to apply for the 2002 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program in an amount not to exceed $405,000, attached as exhibit "A". Section 2: That upon the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program being awarded to the City, it hereby authorizes the appropriate City Officials to accept the award and execute the Grant Agreement and all other respective documents in a form acceptable to the City Manager and approved as to form and legality by the City Attorney. The City Manager and City Attorney are authorized to make minor revisions to said exhibits as are deemed necessary and proper for the best interests of the City. Section 3. Departments can begin an application, save it, and return as often as needed. Throughout the process, they will have access to extensive help screens, :. definitions, and other information. After the application is finished and submitted to V, , , FEMA, an electronic confirmation will be sent. Please read the following information before beginning the electronic application process: f' 1. The application period is from Friday, March 1, 2002, (beginning at s � 12:01am)to Monday,April 1, 2002(ending at 5:00pm). It does not matter how early you submit your application, as long as it is prior to the deadline. Applicants will be able to access the on-line system at any time during the application period except between 2:00am and 4:00am EST when the system will be taken off-line for back up. 2. FEMA has established a help desk to assist you during the application period. Only the one (1) authorized representative of a fire department(the Fire Chief or his/her designee) should click on the application link below to start the process by getting a username and password. That program is the Assistance to Firefighte Program. Grantees must share in the cost of the grant activities.
