A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DANIA
BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE BROWARD COUNTY COMMISSION
TO MODIFY THE DISTRIBUTION OF PROCEEDS FROM THE TOURIST
DEVELOPMENT TAX (BED TAX) TO OFFSET COASTAL
COMMUNITIES' COSTS FOR BEACH RENOURISHMENT PROJECTS,
MAINTENANCE AND SAFETY; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, beaches have served as a driving force for tourism in Broward
County from its inception; and
WHEREAS, coastal cities are faced with severe beach erosion problems to the
point that beaches are being substantially reduced in size in many municipalities, with a
potential fear of losing beach front property completely in the future due to the shortage
of sand; and
WHEREAS, the 5% Tourist Development Tax (Bed Tax) distribution formula,
which is currently set with 3% going to the Convention and Visitors Bureau and 2%
used for debt service on the National Car Rental Center, requires a comprehensive
review with consideration toward reallocation of some percentage to coastal cities to be
used to offset the costs of beach renourishment projects, maintenance and safety of
beaches; and
WHEREAS, due to the extreme conditions of beaches as a result of severe
beach erosion, the City Commissions of the cities of Dania Beach and Hollywood at a
Joint City Commission Meeting on March 19, 2002, expressed support for the
reallocation of some percentage of the Tourist Development Tax to coastal cities to
offset costs for beach renourishment, maintenance and safety.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
® CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach hereby
declares its support of a comprehensive review of the distribution of the Tourist
Development Tax with consideration towards reallocation of some percentage to coastal
cities to offset costs for beach renourishment, maintenance and safety.
Section 2. That a copy of this Resolution shall be forwarded to the Broward
County Commission, Broward League of Cities and all coastal cities in Broward County.
Section 3. That the appropriate City Officials are hereby authorized to do all
things necessary and expedient in order to carry out the provisions of this Resolution.
Section 4. That this Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
