A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA
SUPPORTING THE BROWARD COUNTY SEGMENTS II AND III,
SHORE PROTECTION PROJECT; URGING THAT BROWARD
COUNTY PURSUE THE PROJECT EXPEDITIOUSLY; PROVIDING
FOR CONFLICTS; FURTHER, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, beaches are Broward County's number one tourist attraction, generating almost
$600 million in annual economic impact and 17,700 full-time equivalent jobs for Broward County,
and $800 million and 26,000 jobs in the tri-county region; and
WHEREAS, chronic erosion and recent severe storms have eroded Broward County's
beaches such that the tourism economy of the County is threatened and upland properties,
infrastructure, and lives are increasingly vulnerable to storm wave and flood damage; and
WHEREAS, The City of Dania Beach regards its beach as essential environmental and
economic infrastructure, vital for storm wave protection and recreational opportunities for residents
and visitors, and places a high priority on maintaining a healthy and adequate beach; and
WHEREAS, Broward County has proposed to conduct the Broward County, Segments II and
III, Shore Protection Project, which will restore 11.8 miles of eroded beaches within the County,
including all or part of the beach in the City of Dania Beach; and,
WHEREAS, The County has affirmed that the Shore Protection Project has been designed
and formulated to avoid and minimize adverse impacts to nearshore and offshore marine resources
and to fully mitigate for unavoidable impacts;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach
hereby expresses support for the Broward County, Segments II and III, Shore Protection Project and
urges Broward County to pursue the project with all possible speed.
Section 2. That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this resolution are
repealed to the extent of such conflict.
Section 3. That this resolution shall be in force and take effect immediately upon its
passage and adoption.
