A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA
OPPOSING THE PROPOSAL OF THE BROWARD COUNTY
CHARTER REVIEW COMMISSION TO ESTABLISH A FIRE
SERVICES AND STANDARDS COUNCIL TO COMPILE
COUNTY-WIDE FIRE AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE
STANDARDS; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS, FURTHER,
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Broward County Charter Review Commission has made a
proposal at Section 5.03 of their report to the County Commission to establish a Fire
Services and Standards Council to address issues relating to fire and emergency
medical services; and
WHEREAS, the said Charter Review Commission has recommended that this
Council compile standards for fire and emergency medical services on a County-wide
basis, including uniform levels of service, standardized procedures and uniform fees for
services; and
WHEREAS, the said Charter Review Commission further recommends that the
Board of County Commissioners then enact these fire and emergency medical services
standards as a County-wide ordinance which would supersede and/or prevail over
independent municipal standards, and
WHEREAS, the City of Dania Beach operates its own independent Fire/Rescue
Division, which cooperates with other like departments and divisions throughout the
County through mutual and automatic aid agreements and contracts for sevice; and
WHEREAS, the enactment of County-wide standards for Fire and Emergency
Medical Services would abridge the home rule powers granted to municipalities via
Florida Statutes; and
WHEREAS, the enactment of County-wide standards could also create a financial
hardship for some municipal governments, who are currently able to independently
. operate their own fire and emergency medical services units;

• NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Dania Beach, Florida, does
hereby express its opposition to the proposal made by the Broward County Charter
Review Commission, at Section 5.03 of their report for the creation of a Fire Services
and Standards Council and the adoption of a County-wide ordinance governing same.
Section 2. That the City Clerk be and is hereby directed to provide copies of this
Resolution to each member of the Broward County Board of County Commissioners, the
Broward County League of Cities and to the governing bodies of each municipality within
Broward County.
Section 3 That all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this
resolution are repealed to the extent of such conflict.
Section 4 That this resolution shall be in force and take effect immediately upon
its passage and adoption.
