K. McElyea Bob Mikes 3. UPDATE FROM NEAL ARONSON, ARCHITECT, ON REVISED PLANS FOR PIER RESTAURANT. Acting City Manager Nunemaker explained that the initial design work had begun for the restaurant and bait shop on the Dania Fishing Pier. He advised that the plans had been revised as directed by the Commission. He introduced Neal Aronson who presented the conceptual drawings. Mr. Aronson explained that a shell was designed with four walls on the first floor and four walls on the second floor, however he went a step further to design the layout of the seating area on the first and second floors. He explained that after meeting with staff, the main entrance was designed on the west side, off of the parking lot, where a handicap lift could be used as well as stairs. The handicap bathrooms were moved to the southeast side of the restaurant. The size of the bathrooms were designed based on seating capacity of 200 people. The size of the kitchen was designed to be 23' x 19', excluding the prep area. The square footage of the first floor of MINUTES-WORKSHOP MEETING 1 JULY 12, 2001 the restaurant would be 4,524, excluding the bathrooms, and the square footage of the second floor, not including the observation tower, would be 2,200, excluding the bathrooms. The cost to build the shell would be approximately $75 per square foot, not including the windows. Discussion was held on the placement of the handicap bathroom, the size of the other bathrooms and the size of the kitchen. Discussion was also held on the type of windows that should be used and whether or not to build just the first floor with the availability to build the second floor at a later date. The Commission generally agreed with the design of the first floor and asked staff to obtain a price to construct it by itself as one option to be considered. As a second option, they asked staff to obtain a price to construct the second floor with only an observation tower and railing around the perimeter, then the Commission could decide what option would be more cost effective for h, City.
